nursing majors shouldn't be eating donuts?

Published

I'm really hurt and embarrassed.

I was in a study group with my math professor and I got really hungry. I didn't want to leave to go all the way to the dining hall to get something "healthy" to eat 'cause I was afraid I'd miss something in my group, so I went to the vending machine just outside the room and got a donut. When I came back in the room (I had already had a bite of the donut) my professor looked up and said, "that's nice, a nursing major eating a donut." I almost died. Everyone looked at me and said nothing I was really embarassed 'cause I am a little overweight and I realize that wasn't a healthy choice, but it really made me feel bad.

I would have just said, "And it's really good too!"

No one has a right to embarrass another person like that.

For your next class, you should bring

2 donuts!!!

You could have mentioned that nurses don't seem to be entitled to breaks/lunches like say.....Math professors and that we have learned to scarf down things that can easily be held in our hand as we are running down the hall.

The guy is a rude pompous A$$ who's sole purpose was to embarrass you. Excellent comebacks from other posters to utilize.

What a schmo. Forget about him.

Some of my classmates and I were talking about just this same subject last night during our break. We had all ran up and gotten something to eat...one had some nachos...a few had chips...a couple of them had cookies....some of us (myself included) were munching on a candybar. One of them said, "you know, nurses are the biggest hypocrites...some of us smoke, we eat junk food...and yet we tell everyone not to smoke and to eat right!" She said all this while shoving a cookie into her mouth. :D It was funny! Fact of the matter is, when you're on the run and you don't have time to think, let alone eat, you're going to have to grab something just to get through your shift, or your time at school. Normally, it's not feasable to be chomping on carrot sticks, since they usually aren't available in the vending machines! (Besides, I'd rather be crunching on a Twix bar than a carrot stick...bleh!) All we care about is putting something in our stomach to keep us from passing out...and sugary sweets is just a fast form of glucose...just look at it that way! HAHA!

What a jerk. Who cares if you were eating a donut. None of his business. Nursing school is a lovely time of fast food, eating food in 2 minutes flat because the study group will continue without you, or youre late for a class or exam. I've gained so much weight during nursing school and I dont care what people think.

You eat your donut, girl. I hope it was delicious...:angryfire

"...a nursing major eating a donut".

LOL, let's have fun with the possible retorts!!

"a DONUT? I bought a DONUT??? I could have sworn I had selected a yogurt-encrusted granola ring!"

or

"Oh, no, Professor: it only LOOKS like a donut because that's what you're used to, but I'm actually in a secret clinical study for the betterment of mankind."

or

"Well, Professor, congratulations! I've been conducting a month-long psychology experiment to see if anyone would actually be rude enough to make a comment correlating what students eat with what their chosen professions will be, and YOU are the FIRST to do so!"

Putz.

Oooh, I've got another:

"Oh, yeah, I decided on the donut because too many hash brownies were making inserting Foleys WAY too difficult...."

Ha! Ha! This reminds me of a monthly feature in the old Mad Magazines. . ."Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions". Haven't picked up one of their magazines lately, but some of their earlier stuff was really funny.

I probably would have looked at him with the evil eye then lit a cig!!!!

OMG THAT was the absolute best! I am definitely going to file that away for future use. Seeing as how I'm on the FLUFFY side myself since I quit smoking LOL.

You should have looked at him apologetically and responded, "You are absolutely right. I guess I should have a better grasp of Nutrition since I'm a nursing student. I guess it is kind of like you being a college professor and lacking effective communication skills, compassion, and common courtesy. It just goes to show that we all have our deficiencies."

What a jerk!! His comment says something about him, not you. I think I would have went back to the snack machine and used every dollar and piece of change I had to get more donuts, chips, candy, etc., and I would have sat there staring at him and gleefully stuffing my face with as much of it as I could possibly eat.

Or, better yet, you could have said, "Oh, you are so right. Can I borrow enough change to get another one?" That guy is such a moron.

Someone above mentions the word "fluffy" and ohmigod, apparently this professor hasn't taken a look in some hospitals lately. It's obvious that folks in the medical profession aren't human gods -- they're people for crying out loud!! And heaven forbid he should come in to OUR nursing class when we're having a snack day, or the instructor is passing around the "chocolate basket" before a test!!

Whatever his (misguided) reason for making a comment like that, he needs to get off of his high-horse and keep his smart-alec comments to himself. That was just plain rude.

Must be nice to be perfect.
