diagnosis, treatment, and care
of injured, disabled, or sick persons, or (b)

HOORAY!! Early today I was told they were not included, which was really discouraging because I really wanted to get in there. Ok crisis averted! Also, yes I am very blessed that Maryland has several big, under-served cities, but there are also so so so many nursing schools in the area so I'm hoping that with my recommendations and being a nurse corps participant it will give me an advantage when applying with so many other new grads
I'm sure you will be fine!! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. At least you have options if one place doesn't work out. I really want to work at the VA too, that's my first choice as well.

did you know early?
my efc is 0, have a 1 year old single mom, undergrad 3.6, other classes A's pre reqs for nursing school. Worked in low performing schools as a teacher, came from undeserved community myself (foster care ETC)
was it easy to get reimbursed if you took out a loan to pay the semester?
any tips on essays??
should i apply for 1 year ? or 2 years (my program 1 year accelerated runs two months over the july 2017 deadline)
if you did get the scholarship do you have to pay aLOT in taxes??

your situation sounds similar to mine. Except I was pregnant when I applied and found out I recieving it two days post partum! Are you full time? That's the biggest thing. Also I feel like everyone on here who applied was overly qualified I think it mainly came down to the essays. I poured my heart into each one. Each a little less than a page but I really let them know who I was and who I want to continue to grow into. If you want to PM me I can try and find my essays and you can see them as a reference if you would like. They want to see that your motivated by your grades, that your likely going to graduate, and that your a genuinely good person. My essays didn't go along the lines of "I volunteered here it made me a better person" they were more of a life story for each and the impacts those experiences had on me and how they pushed me to be better and how that would make me a better nurse
also I applied for however many years would cover my entire program because I wanted to be able to focus as much time as I can on my classes and my now 7 month old daughter. It did take me a while to get reimbursed. I think there was mis communication between my school and nurse corps though, so stay on top of your school! Also being a single mom and going to school to be honest I didn't have to pay any taxes back. I also had W2 from other jobs so maybe that factored into it.
Last, I found out two days after my daughter was born so August 6th is when I received the email. However, I think I recieved the credit check from CREDCO sometime in July? Can anyone else verify when they did? Different people heard at different times though so never get discouraged.
thank you so much for the help!! i m glad i got anyone to respond on here!!! ill message you just to review for help etc i dont want to repeat my self in the essays. Im trying to go to a accelerated program school in CT the scholarship would help me pay for daycare and some needs so im like gunning for it!!!

I poured through all 60-something pages of this thread. Much like other posters, I have exhausted all undergraduate funds. I have two B.As and one M.A in non-nursing fields. I am a single mother who works full-time. Needless to say, I need this scholarship to become a nurse. I have no other options. I am really nervous because I am starting on my essays. From reading past posts, I know a lot of emphasis is placed on the essays. I too would appreciate any guidance that you can provide.
@Julieberg do you think it's time we start a 2016-2017 nurse corps thread?

Thank you so much! I no shortage of stories that are sure to wow the judges... I'm new to allnurses so I'm not sure how PM works but I'm sure I can figure this out. You and mocapoca are like Nurse Corps gurus so I will definitely asks questions in the future should they arise!
not sure but i found like the judges panel example grading procedure from years ago
CRITERION 3: Essay 1 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
CRITERION 4: Essay 2 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
CRITERION 5: Essay 3 (15 Points) Total Score: _______
but yes please do not copy any verbatum essays it will ruin it for everyone --- not directing that towards you just everyone!! lol...
not sure about a 2016-2017 post not sure where to do it and i looked on facebook only found 2014-2015 group and they didnt add me --prob bc its 2016 lol... ill keep looking!!!
I've started one simply because I do not have a FB account... https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/nurse-corps-scholarship-1043146.html
I have the prompts from the application and program guidance handbook. I've read that most people submit 3/4 page essays. The handbook said 5,000 or less so I was prepared to write like my life depended upon it. I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread.
I would hope everyone would know not to plagiarize an essay for a scholarship... or even paraphrase...
