Attn: Nurses from Texas, USA (esp. Filipino ones):balloons:

I'm planning to work in Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas as RN. I have an aunt (from Connecticut) who also works in Houston, TX. Pls. share your experience. Are there many filipinos in Texas?:p

what agency did you apply to? about the us-based immigration lawyer, how effective is that? i'll look or apply in a hospital directly and ask for a lawyer's services for a immigrant or h1b visa?

@jms8, pls. enable your private messaging so i could PM you.

Good Luck. Keep us posted.

any US based immigration lawyer anyone can suggest for the state of TX? does he/she need to be a resident of TX not really? is the lawyer going to help us find a hospital willing to petition in TX?

The lawyer cannot (should not) be the one finding a petition for you.

Immigration is to the USA, it is not state specific.

The reason you should consult an immigration lawyer is because many nurses in the Philippines qualify for visas which are not affected by retrogression, a staffing or recruitment agency will not inform you of these because they cannot make money off of you this way. An immigration attorney, on the other hand, can and will inform you of the BEST route for you to enter the USA legally and without added problems.

hi! i also have a contact through email with a direct hire agency but its in illinois..they said that they can apply me for an immigrant visa but suggests that it would be better to apply for H1b because of retrogression and i was told that they have an immigration attorney that will help and guide me to acquire the H1b visa..i asssumed that there will be a separate fee for it aside from the $900 commitment fee they are asking after signing the company contract ..my question is do you think its alright for me to sign up with them?how much is the cost for consulting an immigration lawyer?

If they are wanting you to go the H1b route then they have to pay the lawyer fees and filing fees. This is something you need to check with them. Also what experience do you have and is the job with a non profit making facility otherwise you will have to get everything done for filing in April as that is wen the next batch of visas are released and if successful you will not be able to start work until Oct

So they want you to pay them $900 so they can hire you?

Does that make logical sense?

Don't do it. Legitimate staffing firms/recruitment agencies will never ask a dime from a nurse.

Get your own consultation with an immigration attorney, most will give a consult for free.

Make sure he or she is US based so that you know he or she is legitimate. There are Americans and others in the Philippines that have set up scam companies to milk money from people... don't trust someone just because he is a foreigner. Evaluate what is presented to you and see if it makes logical sense. My suggestion is to email one of the bigger law firms like Hammond. There is also a lady in California that specializes in Philippine to US immigration for health care professionals. Her firm's website is http://www.korenimmigration.com I've listened to her seminars a few times and she really cares about making sure people are on the right path, not just a money-maker.

I think retrogession is the main reason. My friend had direct employer but has just received letter frm US embasy stating that its really hard to give immigrant visa due to a number of applicants and at present they're processing year 2003 applicants..

so how is texas? im planning to move to cali or texas, which state is better? :p

No state is inherently "better" or "worse" overall. If you are looking for the stronger job markets then I'd suggest you look in states with mostly rural areas rather than large population centers. That's where most of the jobs are now, small town and medium city hospitals.

hello to all Filipino nurses in texas...There's an agency here in the Phils that are hiring nurses for texas, even without state board and nclex/ielts...is that possible? I just want to ask your opinions on this because I really want to go out of the country now..Thanks everyone...
