What is your biggest pet peeve about being in nursing school or things that happened while you were in nursing school???
Don't you hate it when:
you study your *$$ off and still dont get an A!
when you hear nursing students say "ewww thats gross" or "it stinks in here, im gonna throw up" or "ew i cant chage a depends thats so gross" -that drives me nuts! i dont know how these students will make it in the world of nursing....
come on nursing students i know we all have something that really irks us about school (even though we all loooove it!)....
This was a very therapeutic thread. It really isn't much different in the real world outside of nursing school. My biggest pet peeve was the fact that I attended a Christian College and the instructors were the biggest hypocrites I have ever met! They would do anything to help you FAIL:devil:
i think that is my biggest pet peeve...unsupportive instructors! I mean come on! they are only cheating the profession! I had one instructor like that before I transferred and I will NEVER forget her!
I don't care if someone's smarter than me, but modesty is a virtue and nothing is more annoying than a know-it-all-attention hog with a voice that sounds like that of a 4-year-old.
There was a girl in my class who sat right behind me in microbiology. She would talk with her friends the whole time. I asked her to please stop, that she was disrupting my learning. She started on a speech about how she never talked in class, that she knew how annoying it was, and that she was too mature for that. My response, "I suppose that you're too modest to give speeches about how great you are." She wholeheartedly agreed. Throughout the semester, she'd brag about herself to anyone who would listen, like how she hoped that she'd get into the nursing program even though she "only" had a 4.0 and how she missed one lousy extra credit question. I got straight A's as well and tied with her at the top of the class, but I earned them quietly. She was 29 somehow. I was happy to move back to Texas, as it meant that we could not have to share the same clinicals.
Pet Peeves regarding nursing school:
Students who ask stupid questions about tests such as "How many
questions?", "How many multiple choice?" What does it matter if you
know the material? Anyhow one day I raised my hand to ask "What
kind of paper will the test be on?" :chuckle
Students who bring a zillion pencils to class for test and then proceed
to methodically drop them one by one. Amazing how the repeated sound
of a pencil dropping to the floor can break ones concentration.
Nursing instructor who replies "I don't know, you tell me" when asked
any question during clinical rotation.
How about the girl in class that knows everything about anything, and has had every disease known to man or knows someone else who has? And ALWAYS has to tell about it in every single blasted class!!!!!
Then, after a test, announces "Well, I missed one..." and when everyone is stressing about the test before hand, she says..."It's not like we've never had a test before, people!" or she says "I have a photographic memory...that's why I get such good grades!"
*BLECH!*
I'm only taking pre-reqs, and we already have a BTDT (Been There, Done That) in my psychology class. Because she works at a mental hospital, this apparently gives her the authority to tell a story for every disorder. She has used the word "crazy" to describe several pts. Needless to say, that word doesn't sit well with the professor lol.

There must be one of these in every class! :) How about students who
go over the test afterwards with a fine tooth nail ie "What did you put for question number 52?"
As for me, I usually didn't remember much more than my name after a long test and if I was lucky where I parked my car.
My biggest pet peeve about nursing school (I am a second year student in an ADN program) is that I study till my brain aches, attend every class, do all the reading, and when I'm certain I've done exceedingly well on the test, I find that I've scored an 84! Not that 84 is terrible, but in any other course A's came much more easily. Should I care? Am I stressing out over nothing?

How about the student who questions everything the professor teaches. "Umm I'm sorry Ms. Suzy, but the book does not say it that way. It says....." which if she were half as smart as she really thought she was she would know they both meant the same thing, just two different ways to word it.....
lizscott, I'm with ya...I cant ever remember what I put for number whatever either...heck...I can't even remember what the question or answer options were for number whatever...I just spent an hour burning brain cells (what few I had left at that moment) trying to answer number whatever....LOL... :rotfl:
I hated showing up to clinicals at 6am(have mercy!) and having a nurse say, "go do all of the blood pressures on the floor, it will be good practice" or "mr. smith needs a suppository, where are the students?"
When I had been a cna for 2 years!!!!
At my school there were two girls who rode to school together and every morning they showed up late, but always had coffee from the place up the street. seriously-leave earlier, skip the coffee, or bring some from home.
