What is your thought on nurses who only join the profession for financial gains?

No. I just need them to do their job and correctly. I absolutely love nursing and it pays well!!! So ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ It’s perfect.

Not bashing, stating what happened to me. This wasn’t meant to argue or start ridiculous online fights.

***You don’t want to hear me bash! Lol ??

I'm pretty much only in nursing for the money. Nursing was the quickest, cheapest, and easiest route to a comfortable salary, good benefits, and the ability to self-schedule/make my work schedule work for ME rather than the other way around. I don't mind learning new things and being active on the job, either. I am told by my patients, management, and co-workers that I'm a great nurse, so clearly my motivation doesn't negatively impact my job performance. Since I don't see nursing as a route to personal fulfillment, I find it much easier not to take things personally and generally have a very easy time dealing with the many strong personalities at my job. I enjoy what I do, but what gets me out of bed in the morning is that sweet salary.

What if they aren’t??

Is that what is keeping you up at night or days ?

Like the song says I am not your mama, nor the nurse police,I dont need any manager's help in order to tell you to your face that you are not doing your share.

If you stopped looking over other nurses shoulders and did your job,you would have less grief.

I was just trying to figure out your point of posting this thread, I think many assumed you had an opinion.

My thought is that for most people it’s varying degrees of several things. Money, enjoyment, want to make a difference. Me personally? The last thing I ever thought I’d be in was a medical field. It took me 3 tries to pass Biology I on my first trip through college (note first, there was more than one.) and even that was by a razor thin margin. I just knew flying a desk was not for me. Just the thought of sitting 40 hours a week makes my orifice hurt. Having accidentally landed in an OR tech position (another story, another day) I saw nursing as a fairly quick, fairly cheap (the fact that my employer was paying for it helped) financially lucrative way to continue doing what I found I shockingly liked. Am I a wanna be Florence Nightingale (cue swooning and angels singing and a noble calling and all that dreck)...no. Just no.

I enjoy the challenges, the flexibility, and yes the money. I like interacting with patients and families. I like being able to alleviate fears with some education and I like being recognized for the professional that I am.

I enjoy my job. Sometimes there’s ??days. Those days though do get somewhat blunted by the halfway decent salary. However when the ?? outweighs the $$, it’s time to move on. The beauty of nursing is that you can do that pretty easily.

So yeah, I guess it’s the money. However, if a person really hates what they do, no amount money is going to be enough for very long.

Y’all are out of control.

I asked a simple question to see others perspectives about the topic and It became about me. I’m fine thanks.

Seems to me that most of y’all want to have online arguments. My goal was to get perspectives of others about this topic, but somehow it became an argument towards me.

Have a great day all ?? Love y’all!!

Probably because you posted a question as a thread, literally one sentence, followed up your first reply with "interesting responses" and then your second reply said you agreed with a poster who thinks nurses who do it for money are coocoo.

All of your replies have indicated that you have an opinion that you prefer nurses who think it is a calling versus who do it for money, yet you don't want to come out and say it and instead are passive-aggressively replying. So of course people are perceiving things one way, based on your initial question and your replies. Own up to it if that's the case, and if it is not then maybe in the future you can clarify your position/purpose in your original thread instead of making it look like you are stirring the pot.

I.e. "I was speaking with coworkers about differences in nurses who are in it because of a calling versus nurses who are in it for money. I don't have an opinion either way as long as the patient is taken care of, but I thought it might be an interesting topic of conversation on allnurses. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences to share?" Problem solved.

Take away the paycheck and not a single one of us would show up on a volunteer basis.
