Nurses that “only do it for the money”

Updated:   Published

What is your thought on nurses who only join the profession for financial gains?

Wow. Touchy subject.

I literally have no opinion on this and one kind of motivation doesn't make me go, "OMG-I-can't-stand-those-types" over another.

Actually, I'm not even sure I understand this question, but oh well.

I show up and do my job and I also hope to leave people and places better than how I found them -- if it's at all possible for me and whatever I have to offer to do so. When it comes to nursing, I expect to get paid for 'leaving people better business'. Don't we all?

That said, nursing isn't like any other profession -- it's different, just like all professions have their "things" - Pretty sure most organizations hiring nurses have expectations in line with Nursing Code of Ethics. ... like it, leave it, change it -- but really, I've done this job awhile and find it suits a variety of personality types just fine.

Awesome!!! I totally understand.

At least your response was respectful

Everyone have a great one. Not responding anymore!

Busy taking a Final! ?

Let's all take a second to be real. If we were all independently wealthy, WE WOULD NOT BE WORKING AS NURSES. Not this profession, not full-time, not in anything where "caring" involves the degradation and abuse nurses are routinely subjected to. Many, probably most, of us, choose this career because we do like the idea of helping people, but if we didn't HAVE to do it this way, we'd probably move on to something more cushy.

I think the reason people are reacting with suspicion to this post is that it never occurs to most of us to have an opinion on the subject. We are all here for our own reasons that we are focused on, and therefore don't have opinions on the motivations of others. That isn't wrong. The older I get, the fewer opinions I have about others' lives turn out to be valid. To be very blunt, it's sort of a waste of time to suppose any differences between these two arbitrary categories of nurses.

There’s nothing to be suspicious about. People are taking it too serious. Simple question simple answer. Instead I get song and dance.

I just figured it was an interesting topic, instead people got offended and it struck a nerve on some.

Oh well! ??‍♂️

With all due respect, you seem to be the only one who is offended. There were a couple posts where people posted their strong opinions about the topic you brought up, but that is the point of the topic, right?

Not offended. Don’t go there. Stop there. Y’all can have opinions on the topic. Knock yourself out. It’s when people tried to go after me personally that I put a complete stop.

With all due respect.

Y’all are a tough crowd. Lol!!!!

with colleagues like that who needs enemies? ??????

I thought you were going to stop responding?

I haven’t seen anyone go after you personally. No song and dances. You asked, we answered.

... wasn’t the point of the topic to discuss opinions on the subject? Or were we supposed to be all, “omigosh, yes it’s a calling OP - those RNs who do it for the money are meanies and don’t belong to be in this cherished profession!?” I’m guessing yes.

Next we will be on to NETY.

Goodnight! ?

and the hell is NETY? ?

Does anyone know how to delete a thread? Lol! I’m done with all these drama queens.

Don't we all go to work for the money (get into any job field)? Looks like I just got in before the moderation, in 5..4..3..2...1.? Anyhoo I do like helping people and working as a nurse, but not doing a lot of the stuff that takes me away from being a nurse. I would not work 3 -12 hours shifts for free.
