A recent study led by Vanderbilt University professor Peter Buerhaus polled registered nurses about two timely issues -- the state of health care and the importance of the issue in the upcoming election.
With a close election expected, the country's three million registered nurses could make a difference in the election, Buerhaus says.
Most nurses interviewed support some form of universal health care coverage, although opinions vary on just how extensive coverage should be.
Very few approve of the country's health care system as it stands now, the survey shows.
...Slightly more than half, or 51 percent, believe that if all nurses could join together to address one health problem, it would be the number of uninsured Americans.

We'll let me enlighten you about third grade economics. Drill more creates more supply, more supply than demand causes prices to drop. As far as solutions I haven't heard any from Barack except hope and change which last I checked the grocery store takes neither as payment for goods and services. Barack is an inexperienced empty suit offering nothing but platitiudes and nonspecific idealism. Alternative energy will produce no results for 10-30 years or me.
Lol...I don't need you to "enlighten" me on 3rd grade economics, thank you. I am well aware of "more supply causes less demand and along with that, come the lower prices." Perhaps you have not been paying attention to the scientific reports on oil drilling in ANWR or off the coast of Ca. It would take 10+ years to see oil and will not even produce an amount close to the amounts Americans consume. FACT** Look it up, b/c it seems as though you're looking through the smoke screen the republicans have continued to blow in the faces of Americans!
You can continue to call Barack "inexperieced", but last I checked, McSame chose a woman who superscedes Obama by furlongs in inexperience and there are records to prove it online available for all to see.
Perhaps you could enlighten me here though. What plans has McCain actually laid out for Americans to help with the mortgage crisis, HEALTHCARE and the economy?
Atleast Barack HAS plans. And logical ones at that:) I'm looking forward to the debates!
If we had started drilling inAnwar back in the 90s like the Republicans proposed we would already be pumping that oil now. As far as Obama's rhetoric about using alternative fuels it ain't gonna happen for 30+ years. Oil is the life blood of this economy and it will continue to be for a very long time. Of course when Obama's answer to high fuel prices is to put air into your tires you know you dealing with a total lack of experience on anything dealing with energy.
As far as Palins she has way more executive experience that either Biden or Obama. Obamas only experience as a "community organizer" just like Jackson and Sharpton hardly counts for experience needed to be a people greeter at Wal-Mart much less President of the United States and the polls are now starting to reflect it big time. I gues people are finally figuring out hope and change aren't very good at paying the bills.

First of all, you haven't supplied me with some important solutions that we as Americans face today. Perhaps, b/c McCain has NONE?
I'll be waiting for those....
Secondly, there is truth to putting air in your tires. Ask an auto mechanic and not a politically biased one, either. You will be surprised! A good friend of mine who votes republican, is the one person who told me years ago that keeping your tires inflated will give you better gas mileage and you won't waste as much gas upon shifting. So....
I guess you can call it what you want, but since you're not an automechanic and have never heard it before, you will tend to believe the opposite.
If you would sit and read through the scientific records on alternative energy, you might actually be surprised to know that it's NOT 30+ years. I'm not even sure where you got that number. The records are showing results in less than 10 years and the results are pretty obvious already, with wind. The answer is not oil. Oil is of the past and should be, since we are depleting the earths supply at record rates. Who knows what the environmental impact of that will be. As humans, it's always about the "here and now" and then years later, we see the detrimental effects we have caused. Ie. Global warming. America should be on the forefront of renewable alternative energy and then other countries will follow suit!
Lastly, I cannot believe you actually believe that miss "beauty queen" Palin has more experience than Obama and/or Biden. Your comment makes me laugh out loud because it lacks facts. It's hot air with nothing behind it. So I say, show me the proof. Biden has been in the senate for 20+ years and Obama has both state and US senate experience, along with a two page list of community help and change he has brought to the people of Illinois and far reaching.
This is wishful thinking on the republicans part, yet again.
I'm really looking foward to your response and I cannot wait for the debates so that the democratic ticket can shine, yet again. And it's showing with the electoral votes already, Obama has the lead:)
Look how unfortunate Sarah Palin's interview went with Charlie Gibson, she only got her 1st passport one year ago... she has no knowledge of health care issues or international policy. It is overwhelmingly scary to think voters out there can consider that ticket. Listen... this is the most important election of our lifetime. ANA will endorse Obama/Biden because it is the right thing to do.

But the First Amendment is for ALL of us.
And I think as a nurse that advocacy includes working for a healthy society.
So I teach high school students to teach healthy eating and the need for exercise.
And, yes, work for laws and candidates to promote better health in my beloved country.
Like the California Safe Staffing Ratio law, seat belt and helmet laws.
Who better to promote these safety issues than a nurse who has cared for victims of traumatic head injury who either did not survive or were permanently disabled?
And nurses know safe staffing saves lives. Nurses across the country are working for laws that will protect our patients.
unfortunately, nurses are just as polarized as the rest of the country. the thing that upsets me the most is when actual facts are ignored for the sake of feelings. people are criticizing obama for his "lack of experience" but no one is talking about the fact that during mccain's only command, he was yanked out and put into a dead-end pentagon slot until he could be safely retired. why? for sexual harrassment, typical behavior of a fighter pilot. and before you jump all over me for being unpatriotic, my husband is a 22 year veteral retired from the usaf with a 50% service related disability who served in operation desert storm. my brother is a ltcol in the army reserves who has served in operation iraqi freedom.
now lets talk about his running mate, self professed "pit bull with lipstick." she likes to talk about her christian values but she has been under investigation for harassing her former brother-in-law, to the point of causing emotional damage to his children. she talks about how she "said no to the bridge to nowhere" but she actually said yes until everyone else had already said no and then she took the money anyway because it "had already been allocated." her idea of knowledge about russia that would make her qualified to sit one elderly heartbeat away from the nuclear trigger is that you "can see russia from one of the islands" of her home state.
added to the fact that both of these people support policies that, over the last 20+ years (ever since ronald regan and his conservative buddies took over) have put the middle class into the poor house, i don't feel safe placing the next four years in their hands.
On March 13 and 14, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing honored Sens. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) for their "outstanding leadership" on nursing education and research issues.

do nurses have a more educated opinion than the general population??
you can keep informed of what is going on whether you are a truck driver, a realtor, a teacher or any other line of work
