After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
Elucas dont give up hope! Last year someone posted that they received the award email Sept 17!! Although its overwhelming and you might feel discouraged reading about everyones acceptance and still waiting for yours, you shouldnt give up hope. Anything can happen and there's still up to sept 30. Best of luck!

If you have to accept your loans they will pay off the loans that are accepted prior to you getting a participant email (summer/fall) so do what you have to do hun, it will be ok.
Im on the same boat :/ my school needs the papers that are sent with the particpant email in order to apply the scholarship to my bill. Without it ill either have to accept my loans or keep asking for an extension till they get back to us. Im just praying they get back to us by this week.
I honestly dont know when my credit was checked. i found out there was a credit check when I got the finalist email and started looking online for forums about this topic lol. I still havent checked though sorry :/

I went ahead and accepted my federal loans since my tuition was due on August 16 and my school will not budge...the program is so competitive, they wouldn't mind dropping me for another student on the waiting list, lol...not funny. But I just wanted to say that...if you read the scholarship guideline, hrsa will cover for loans for the first semester while you're waiting on the final participant email. You'll just have your school send them an invoice. They'll send the school the money & your school can return the federal loans that was initially borrowed while waiting. This applies to the first semester only. You can not borrow or use other funds after you receive the participant email.
