Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA

Best of luck to you both! I'm hoping to send in my app once I get my 2nd letter of rec in the next week (crossing my fingers). I'm also an AmeriCorps alum and have had more than 2000 hours of community service, so I'm hoping that will make up for my higher EFC (6457 - I've been saving up all of my money so that's probably going to make me less appealing for the scholarship). I do believe in the mission and am committed to working in underserved areas, so we shall see!

Hi everyone! I am starting an accelerated grad entry pediatric NP program in June, EFC 0, GPA 3.95. I am working right now as a respiratory therapist and have volunteer work at a children's hospital as well as a disabilities camp up to around 1000 hours total.
My question is who did you make your CV out to? The mailing address? Also, did you put you first initial, last name, and application ID on all supporting documents?

ElleMarie,
our story is almost EXACTLY the same!
I'm a divorced, single mother of one. I exhausted my financial aid in my previous degrees ( 1 bachelors, 2 Masters in education) and am hoping to get this award to fund this degree.
I'll also be attending a private, not for profit Catholic university (hopefully) this Fall. I really NEED this scholarship to help pay my mortgage, car note, and household bills
I have taught for high school science for 10 years at inner city schools that are largely underserved, but I do not have much recent volunteer experience besides all of the additional (unpaid) hours that I give to my students via tutoring, club sponsorship, and after school activities... Not to mention I still have a preschooler!!
Louisiana
EFC: 0000
GPA (cum): 3.2
So, I'm hoping to be in that selected number!!!
Same here, 10 years of teaching inner city kids, but no recent volunteer hours. I hope this will suffice!

I submitted my application April 4th. I'm trying to get funding to get my ASN in nursing at a private University here in Florida where I was accepted! I'm a mother of 5 and not divorced but 5 kiddos is a lot. Im praying I get this so badly I got the application done as soon as possible to maybe help my chances...
School: Keiser University Florida
GPA: 4.0
Program Start Date: August 29th 2016
I will be graduating in December 2017!
volunteer experience: 2 years helping raise money for children miracle network at fundraisers
I don't really have experience in underserved areas but I have been a CNA for 5 years so im hoping my chances are good.
P.S. those essay questions were hard. I struggled with not repeating information from one essay to the next and mine were all about 2500 characters long and a whole page at 1 1/2 spaced. How long were everyone else?
Mine were over a page but under 5,000 characters. there were some discrepencies when it came to how long our application could be
I thought it specifically said no more than 1 page. I could be wrong but I remember seeing that.

Can anyone email me the verification of good standing form, for some reason it will not download for me!

This is so frustrating. I really want to apply but know I won't have a chance. These programs always screw over people who live in expensive areas because they do not factor in a cost of living differential.
