Nurse Corps Scholarship 2016-2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Greetings!

After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!

Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)

1 year AmeriCorps

1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents

5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)

EFC: 544

GPA: 3.9

Community service hours: 45

Location: GA

Specializes in CNA.
This is so frustrating. I really want to apply but know I won't have a chance. These programs always screw over people who live in expensive areas because they do not factor in a cost of living differential.

Don't say you won't have a chance it's better to apply and get told no then to not try for it. What's your GPA and EFC? They go by this first.

Thanks but i will actually be applying next cycle but I know I want to apply to this if I go to a school which has a start schedule that lines up. I am just trying to learn as much as possible now because I find looking into programs and financial aid overwhelming. I havent looked at how it is counted but I am hoping to finish prereqs with a cumulative GPA (I already have a BA) just above 3.0. Barely. I wanted to save money but will probably pay down my car loan and if I have a place pay rent ahead etc... to bring down EFC since cash raises it. I am guessing my EFC will be around 8k if everything is similar to this year. It sounds like I have a high income but I live in the Bay area and I'm not a tech employee or another exceedingly highly paid employee. I work in the public sector which says it all.

I was just looking at their information a little closer and it says historically they have only had enough funding for their priority applicants which mean to be realistically competitive you need an EFC bellow their threshold of appriximately 5100.

Mississippi here.

3.41 GPA

EFC 0

Several years of community service

Pursuing an ADN.. I've also exhausted my financial aid from a BS in Biology and a year of graduate courses in Biology (decided to go to nursing school instead of completing)

Program start was August 2015; end date May 2017

Where in the application does it ask about community service hours? I have volunteer experience, but I only mentioned it in the CV. Do the hours go on the CV as well?

The volunteer hours aren't required bit it helps when writing essays and on the resume you include in the application. There's also a conference call on Saturday to ask any questions you have about the scholarship so go to the website and get the info for that too.

Hey there guys! I am applying for this scholarship as well.. I was accepted into a MSN-Direct Entry Program. Not sure what tier that is as it meets the requirements for the first. I hold AA- Direct Transfer, BSW with a Minor in Psychology. I was accepted to Western University in Pomona, CA the programs 3 years but only 1 year to get an RN.

3.99 GPA

0 EFC

Medical Experience in pretty much every aspect of health care, emphasis in ER and critical access hospitals. I have also done work in the community to build positive parenting, establishing programs for foster youth, and working with not for profit program Head Start from tribal enrolled members. My story is much like others, I have no real way to pay for Grad School.. they only offer the small amount in loans and the rest is on your own..

Hi, guys! Does anyone know if we have to upload an official transcript, or if it can be an unofficial transcript? It wouldn't make sense for it to be an official transcript since we have to write our names and ID numbers on it.

The names and ID numbers go at the top of the essay documents.

The name and ID number needs to go at the top of every document uploaded not just essays and to the original question. It can be either unofficial or official doesn't matter as long as it is your most recent transcript.

I called earlier this week and they told me we had to have our Names and IDs on top of every document. Including transcripts, verifications, etc. The reason I'm asking here is because it's the weekend and they don't work 'em! :)

Thank you! :) Also, do you think it would make a difference if I added into the document after scanning it, or should I write them in my own handwriting before scanning the documents?

That just doesn't seem right to me, but I will take your word for it. The only place I see to put the ID is on the Essays section of the supporting documents page of the application.

No worries! I wouldn't have taken anyone else's word for it, either. You can always call them on Monday, like I did.

Edit: You can also join the conference call that's happening right now to ask questions. The info is on the main scholarship page of the hrsa website.
