Nurse Corps Scholarship 2016-2017

Published

Greetings!

After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!

Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)

1 year AmeriCorps

1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents

5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)

EFC: 544

GPA: 3.9

Community service hours: 45

Location: GA

You folks have been providing super helpful information so thank you! Ok, so I've accepted I'm not getting a Nurse Corps scholarship because I wasn't credit checked by Credco on July 15th....but can you all tell me if the National Health Service Corps process is any different? That is, are they still credit checking applicants before each wave of offers or did they also have one date that they credit checked anyone who might get it? And what do their credit checks show up as? Thanks you all, and congrats to those who got it, and sympathies to those in my boat.

I am in your boat as well. I have actually been thinking of withdrawing myself from the nursing program I got accepted to. There is no way I could afford to attend a private school when I already have a bachelor's degree. I have no chances right now and my bill have to be paid off by next monday. Unless an email just magically appears in my email I'm out the game. But I do wish all of you ladies and gents with many blessings. I know there is still time for most of you. Good luck

Hey guys, I think that finalist notifications are still underway. I received an email on Friday that I was chosen for the Nurse corps Scholarship, however I already accepted my award from the NHSC on July 28th ( I applied to both for my NP program). I was given until Monday to respond if I was interested in accepting the Nurse Corps scholarship offer, but I declined it. This means they are still sending out emails, keep the faith guys.

Yeah but for us who have not gotten the credit check on 7/15 it isn't looking good

For those of you who have received an award when did you turn in your application. I'm asking because I turned mine in on May 5th and i'm wondering if they are selecting based on when the applications were turned in.

I turned mine in on April 4th and no credit check or award email for me yet so I don't know how accurate that is. I'm pretty sure they go by the points you received after all documents being scored.

Yes, they go by points. The first wave had the highest scores and they're slowly moving down as people decline the award.

I got the award Friday 8/12. I also turned in my application may 5th

I completed my application on 5/5, credit check 7/15, finalist email on 7/26. The deadline was 5/5 they can't give people preference just because they submitted it earlier then the deadline. That would be totally unfair.

I also gave in my aplication on May 5th and received the award email on the 7/26. I dont think the day you gave it in matters but how strong your application is . Hopefully we get our particpant emails soon since i read from last years thread that that the participant emails tooks approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the finalist documents were turned in (w4 and bank account info). The secretary of health signed the documents last year ~20 days after documents were turned in and then like a week later participant emails were sent out. I also noticed that last year the finalist emails were sent early august (august 3 was the first one someone posted aboutturning in documents of the 7th) and secretary of health signed~ 8/27 and they receive the participant emails by the end of august latest someone posted was sept 3. Hopefully since this years finalist emails went out earlier, we would get our participant emails earlier also. Ive been refreshing my email like a mad woman! Best of luck to everyone still waiting and hope this helps!!

I'm constantly looking at my email as well. My school won't deal with me until I have my signed contract back from them. She said she will have to see if I get to keep my grant and scholarship from the school. This is nail biting stuff, I have no idea if I'm being taxed on $45,000 or $11,000?! I hope my school will give me a break.

I've not gotten the award email yet but from what I've learned and read I'm pretty sure any scholarships already applied to the cost of tuition will not be paid for. I'm pretty sure that they only pay for what you owe after any aid help like the fafsa and/or scholarships. Hope you guys get participant emails soon. Still waiting on a a miracle for my award email lol. I start nursing school in my ADN program in 11 days.

Im on the same boat :/ my school needs the papers that are sent with the particpant email in order to apply the scholarship to my bill. Without it ill either have to accept my loans or keep asking for an extension till they get back to us. Im just praying they get back to us by this week.
