Nurse Corps Scholarship 2016-2017

Published

Greetings!

After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!

Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)

1 year AmeriCorps

1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents

5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)

EFC: 544

GPA: 3.9

Community service hours: 45

Location: GA

Specializes in Surgical, CVICU & Oncology, Med/Surg.
What time did you get the email? And did you get a credit check? When did you get the inquiry? My mind is just trying to figure out what they are doing. And CONGRATS!

Gosh, I understand. I was there. & Thank you. I got the award email today, 8/9, at 5pmEST. I got a credit check on 7/15 (it appeared as credco on Credit Karma).

Specializes in CNA.

Aw ok still no credit check for me yet. Seems like they only did them on that day and those people are getting awards I thought my application had a really good chance but guess I'm kinda low on the totem pole if they haven't checked me yet.. Still trying to hope for the best I have 5 kids and need this. I start my ASN 16 month program on august 29th and total tuition is about 40k maybe they just don't wanna pay that Much lol. Neither do I.

I was highly surprised they were willing to pay my $59,000 tuition but it happens!

Are you in an rn program or bsn? Or NP? I'm wondering how many of us ASN programs got picked. ASN is still first tier right? And 59 is a lot I thought mine was bad congrats

I am an ABSN student 20 month program. My tuition is about 80k all together. Don't loos hope based on how much it is.

ASN is first tier as long as it's full time. 40k is a lot for a ASN. It is an RN, ASN program right? If it is LPN it is not first tier.

I received my acceptance e-mail this morning!! I applied to the NHSC and I am an FNP.

So the last couple of folks with acceptances-- are you guys getting NHSC or NurseCorps offers here lately?

Congrats to those who have been notified this week. So happy for you in your new ventures.

So I had to call them because my school wanted a letter from them that I would have money on the way. I was told that the award was not guaranteed and they could not send the email. They said that receiving the award email the first stage was passed, but there was a second stage. Does anyone know anything about this? My hopes feel deflated.

As long as you haven't changed your original application ie: full time to part time or changed schools, you will be fine. However, for legal reasons they aren't going to commit in writing that you have the award until the contract is signed on their end. My school took the email as acceptable documentation. I gave them that and pages 14-16 of the guidance pdf as well as the BHW's phone number. They understand that I will provide more info when I have it for them.
