Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
Hello to all of you out there! I am glad to have found this message board. I received the finalist email on July 26 and submitted all of the paperwork before the deadline July 31. Now I am curious what the deal is... Does anyone know about when the scholarship will kick in? For those of you who also got the email, are you taking out loans to cover cost of tuition in the meantime? My program starts at the end of August and I think it'll be sometime before we get the official participant email so I am not sure what to do next. Does anyone happen to have any information about how this tuition will be handled? Do I cover tuition and wait to be reimbursed? I plan on calling the hotline but I often feel like they aren't entirely sure about this process either. I am going to post in the message board from last year too but thought I would start asking here. Congratulations to everyone who has received the finalist email and good luck to all who are waiting!
Spoke with someone from Nurse Corp this morning. They are still sending awards and will be doing so until 9/30, so, honestly, if you are waiting best advice is to focus on something else till then.
Not that it is new news but he confirmed that credit checks from Credco are for finalists. Anyway best of luck!

So if we didn't get a credit check? I didn't get one so still not looking to good for me.

Not it that I don't believe you but it seems weird he would confirm the credit check thing when they've been consistent about denying it.
There is a facebook group called 2016 - 2017 HRSA Nurse Corps Recipients where we have been going over alot of information. Also you should read the guidance pdf. It answers alot of questions about time lines and how the scholarship works.

Hello all!
I received my finalist award email on 7/29/16 at 8am. I am from South Florida, EFC 0, GPA 3.28, 3 semesters away from graduating with my BSN. I currently work as an administrative team coordinator in the emergency department of an underserved community hospital. I was initially confused on the wording of the confirmation on the portal because it says it's not a guarantee of the scholarship. However, I read in this thread that as long as the documents are submitted on time the grant is awarded! The status said "finalist" but after submitting the requested docs. and signing the contract it now says "In final review". Anxiously awaiting for the next step.
Congrats to all finalists and good luck to those still waiting to be selected!! There is still time so don't lose hope!!

I was going to say the same thing already mentioned. It's shut down Saturday from 7am to 5pm. That's a long time hopefully they do that to update the awards going out and to put confirmation needed or something instead of under review. I also wonder how many of the people in charge of this are reading these posts we are doing? If you are reading this pick me! Erica Lucas! Worth a shot right?
