2018 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Hi all,

I've been reading up on the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program and looks like in past years, threads have been started for the yearly application process. I'll be applying as a Staff RN (non-faculty) working at a DSH with an HPSA Score of 16. Not sure of my DTI percentage yet. Hoping to connect with others that will be applying to the program next month and we can all share our updates here. Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks for sharing your experience and encouraging us to never give up! Best wishes to everyone who applied:-)

For the two people who were awarded, when did you receive credit checks? Also, did you apply early or late in the cycle?

Glad to find this thread. I'm an RN, tier 1. I had the credit check in April. So tired of waiting. I check the website nearly every day. Hoping to find something out soon.

Still listed "under review" for Nurse Corps. Not a good sign I'm guessing!

Specializes in MSN, PMHNP-BC.

I don't think anyone has heard anything from the Nurse Corp yet.

Specializes in NICU.

Hi everyone! I am an NP in NYC. I applied this year with DTI of about 160%. My HPSA score at the time I applied was 12 or 13 but I just checked again and it increased to 18 in April! I've had a credit check by CREDCO like some others about a month ago. I called them up see if they would change the tier I am in for eligibility based on the new HPSA score and they were not able to answer the question. Does anyone have any thoughts? It looks like some people have heard and I didn't have high hopes since I was already in Tier 3, but now I should be Tier 1 so I'm hoping that they look at the current score! Thanks for any advice!

I have read past years postings and some found out at the beginning of July, but most were towards the end of July/start of August. But the wait is killing me slowly too.

Hey,

I applied to the NHSC Loan Repayment program a few days after the cycle opened. Credit check was done by Credco on April 9th. Another employment verification was sent to my job by HRSA on June 12th. I got an email from HRSA saying that the verification had been completed on that day. I had already submitted my initial employment verification with my application. Received finalist letter on July 9th asking that I confirm my intent to accept and to verify mu COI information. HRSA accepted all of my loans for repayment totaling about $146,000. I e-signed that within 30 minutes of seeing the email and also input my bank account info as requested.

I don't think they would be asking for bank account information if there was no intention on making an award. I'm continually praying for this blessing. I do plan to stay at my site as well.

HPSA Score: 19

Area: Mental Health NP

DTI: 123.346%

Congrats thegooddoctorb!!! Such a blessing! Do you know if the accepted your Perkins Loans?

I didn't have Perkins. I had Subsidized and Unsubsized Stafford Loans.

Congratulations, that's such a blessing! Thank you for sharing the details too. I didn't realize they sent an email to the applicant verifying employment verification was completed prior to receiving award. In the past I don't think finalists got an email prior--so maybe that's new in the process. I'm curious if other awardees have had the same experience. If so, then that's a big clue you are a potential recipient. (1. credit check 2. Second employment verification 3. Finalist Letter)

I checked with my employer today and they haven't received an additional employment verification request--so wondering if that means I'm out. I did have the credit check, but I know that many have that without being awarded.

HPSA 14 but I think tier 1 due to DTI of 160%

Hello! I have been following this conversation for awhile, and finally, the waiting became too much! I am nurse faculty and am wondering if any faculty has been contacted yet? Do they usually go by groups and started with NPs this time?

I never thought the waiting would be this bad!

Fingers crossed for us all!
