Here's a link to this story I saw yesterday in our local paper. http://www.eveningsun.com/Stories/0,1413,140%257E9956%257E2908493,00.html
Those kids are in a tough spot. I don't think that their home is a safe environment for them, definitely not emotionally, and possibly not physically. And we all know the stats. They're likely to grow up to either be victims or abusers themselves. OTOH, knowing what I know about foster care, it is hardly a promise of a more stable existence to place them there. There are many wonderful foster families, but there are also a disproportionate number of horrible ones. Given the chronic understaffing of the case workers who are supposed to be overseeing these kids' placement, all I can say is that I hope there are reliable relatives willing to take these kids in.
Low class and tabloidish???????? Wow! How about sick and endangering the lives of their children. Not a publicity stunt but the actual truth, live footage of a woman physically abusing her husband while mentally damaging her kids. Yes, they chose to be on the show, which is a pretty BIG step in asking for help. I am sure she doesn't want to continue living like this, and I am sure there are more issues than her husnabd being drunk.
.Marie that's what I was thinking...I saw the show; in one of the clips she was beating him with her scrubs on! What a great testament to our profession.:angryfire
It has nothing to do with our profession. Just happens she is a nurse. Doesn't mean the public will think ALL nurses beat their families.
I dont watch these so called talk show hosts anymore. They are all just to negative and trashy. Whether its Phil, or Oprah, or Jerry or Ellen or whomever.
They all have one thing in common, they all manage to find the worst that they can in Humanity.
I for one just cant even imagine that there are nothing but all these loser types out there. I also cant imagine why people like to watch these shows. They arent funny or amusing, they have nothing to offer you mentally, they have no social redeeming value. I just dont understand the obsession some have with these shows.
I also dont understand why people are all so interested in all these live court room dramas and investigations. I got so tired of hearing about peterson and OJ and all the others. I dont even see anything of interest in Michael Jacksons case either, that merits more than a brief statement in a newspaper.
Why watch all this when you have the Golf Channel available
I'd rather watch the Tooth Extraction Channel than the Golf Channel!! I do think Phil has gotten (well, has been) a bit sensational, but Oprah usually has some pretty insightful things on her show. I don't think either one of them compares in any way to Jerry Springer. Slightly different gene pools.
I agree up to the Golf Channel. I am a FOOD network and HGTV person, myself. Watching golf played is like watching grass grow, to me.I dont watch these so called talk show hosts anymore. It is still low class of the show to air such a thing. Why couldn't Dr. Phil just help this family out of the goodness of his heart? Lots of professionals dedicate a certain percentage of their time to pro bono work. Dr. Phil knew this story garner ratings, though, so he traded his help for their exposure. Well within the rights of both parties, but it still reeks.

Better create more foster homes. If we take all the kids away from all the fighting, alcoholic, and drug abusing families...we are in deep doodoo. The problem is more extensive than you know. Sad to say, a foster home could prove to be even worse! It has been known to happen. For so many kids growing up, this is no big deal, as it is the way it has always "worked" in their family. To them, this is "normal". I am not saying the kids should not get help, but, you have to ook at the entire picture. Just read the posts under the dysfunctional family post and you will see what I mean
