November/ December 2014 TEAS Exam Takers

Published

Hello Nursing applicants, I wanted to start a thread for us nursing students who will have to take the the TEAS Exam soon. It doesn't matter what school your going to, or what type of nursing program you applied to. I thought maybe we could share study tips and help encourage each other and hopefully, we will all get the score that we need so that we can get accepted into the nursing school we want to attend. I need at least a minimum score of 71 percent to be competitive for acceptance in the RN program I applied to. I take my test next week November the 6th. I have been studying for about three weeks now. My study guides are the ATI study guide, Secrets to TEAS V Study guides. I also have the Mcgraw- Hill 5 test book. I also purchased the ATI Test and will take the first online practice exam this wednesday. Please share what your doing to prepare, how your dealing with the test anxiety, and if you already successfully taken it what did you do to get the score you wanted. Good luck everyone!

Thank God that's over, 82% Individual score. Science and English kicked me pretty hard. With a 4.0 GPA in pre req and overall I should be good.

@queenwandaful if you don't mind please telling me what you thought your weak areas were in English and reading (or what you thought was difficult about those two particular sections) I have been studying the science section like crazy but I'm getting nervous that I should've spent more time on the English and reading..I still have time till my test, but it would be great to hear some insight from you

I'm scheduled to take my TEAS on Dec 4th. I took the online practice test once, before studying, and got a 71% overall. My worst subject being science with a 40-something%. I've only studied a little since then, a couple months ago. I plan to spend a good chunk of this weekend studying and retaking the practice test on Sunday. I have not taken micro or a&p II yet (in the spring), so I'm struggling a little bit with those areas. At any rate, I'm needing a 75% over all, 85% reading, 80% math minimum to apply for the program at my school. I'm hoping the actual test ends up being easier than these practice ones and I make the cut! I have a 3.875 GPA with 4.0 in sciences. I'll let you guys know how I did on Thursday! :)

I have always been a very good reader but I read slow. I need to read, write and ask myself questions about what I just read. I ran out of time on the reading section. As far as the English language usage I scored low on spelling. All of those words look the same and there's no spell check. Truth be told did no study that part efficient enough. I got A's in all of my writing class. I was shocked at the science section.

I'll be taking my TEAS Dec. 13th. I haven't studied since the beginning of this semester. I wanted to wait until I got my College Algebra class done because math is by far my weakest subject. I need to score at least a 64% overall to be eligible, but would like to score over an 85% to be a stronger contender for the program. I have a McGraw-Hill book and lots of apps. I plan on studying more now that the semester is almost over.

Thankyou so much for your feedback! ill be sure to study the commonly misspelled words, idk what I'm gonna do about being faster on the reading section :/ ill just do my best, i guess

Just got my TEAS exam score back! Scored way above national average on all components!! :) The ATI prep book helped me a lot! When I took the practice test I had a 40% in math.. And with that book I was able to score a 90% on the actual test! Ahhhhh Im beyond excited! Such a great feeling of accomplishment!

If anyone needs any tips and pointers let me know! I just took it on the 26th so it's all fresh! :) :)

Congrats on your score! That's amazing honestly that your above average cause I just took practice test B and my over all score was a 60% :( it was so difficult to me and I have been studying so much you can only imagine my disappointment. My question for you is did u feel like there were a lot of chemical reaction questions in the science part? What do u think I should focus my study time more towards in regards to that section? Were there a lot math based questions in your reading section or were there more questions about the passage? That stuff really slowed me down. Also in the math did you feel like u were running out of time due to the level of difficulty of the questions? cause during the practice test I always felt like I was running out of time ugh! I know this a lot of questions lol sorry it's just that I take my test next week and I'm kinda freaking out, any response will be much appreciated. I feel really let down by my most recent score so I'm hoping that studying the book more and getting more insight will prepare me for this test.

There were 2-3 chemical reaction questions.. it wasn't that bad. The science part consisted of 11 anatomy questions, 15 life science, 14 earth and physical science, and 8 were scientific reasoning questions. In the reading section it was mostly passages, and only 5 (or so) math based questions (but they were very easy!). I practiced the math a lot because my college looks at math and reading, so I had time left over.. about 5 minutes. If you know your math, you won't run out of time. However, I do think enough time was given, regardless. The questions don't use big, complicated numbers that will take a lot of time to work out. If you have the ATI review book.. it really is the same format, although I thought the questions were much easier. A suggestions I have for you is if you're adding, dividing or multiplying something.. look at all the answers prior to working out the question.. look at the last number in each answer (usually they are different), so when you start working out the problem, you can stop as soon as u find the last number and you dont have to continue to find the others. This will save you a lot of time. ---I hope that made sense lol---

Good luck on your exam!! Don't be nervous.. I scored higher on the TEAS than on all my practice exams and so did my friends. Remember, it's not made to trick you.. it just an assessment of what you know. I honestly felt like the TEAS was easier than the practice exams in the ATI review book.

Keep me updated on how you do!
