Questions if you have time: - How are you preparing for the GRE? I'm thinking about doing a Kaplan Q bank subscription. Took a predictor test, did ok... We'll see. - When do you plan on taking the GRE? Late October? - Who did you pick to write your recommendation letters? Did you coach them or give a sample? There is so much riding on them! I'm still trying to figure out the best combo of people. Not sure how to approach it yet. - Are you applying to other schools? I'm thinking maybe ECU, WCU, UNCW. - What attracts you to the UNCC program? I like that it has an in-person element, in Charlotte, and clinicals are all set up for you locally. Tuition isn't horrible. - Do you plan to work while in school? If so, how much? Yes, probably part time until clinicals start then PRN. I hope my job will work with me!

An NP in PACU? I'm currently an RN in pacu getting my graduate application together for NP and was wondering if there was such a thing as a PACU NP... The hospital I work for does not have one and we're the biggest PACU in the region (Trauma I). Could you expand on what a PACU NP role would look like? Very interesting!

I don't think there is a facebook page yet, I checked. Our orientation was back in April, so I really have no clue what we'll do other than probably go over expectations and intros and all that. I'm not really anxious or anything, just thought it'd be fun to start getting excited! I start next Monday and have been so busy this summer, I've kind of lost all my excitement in a blur of adult responsibility and vacationing.

As the first day of nursing school is quickly coming for many of us, I was wondering if any veterans could give a quick tip or two to help us on our way? What should we take on the first day? Our whole book list or just a pencil and paper? Is it best to make friends right away, or feel it out first? We're so green we don't always even know what to ask. So if you have anything helpful, please share. TIA!!!

I can't remember exactly, somewhere around 88%. I know some made it in with scores just at the cut score though. Don't worry too much about it, just study and take it understanding the cut scores for each subject. You can only miss 4 questions (I think) on the reading portion, so focus on those types of questions so that you meet the required scores. Good luck!

Hi! I'm starting the nursing program at CPCC this fall. The most important thing is to get your TEAS score at or above the required mark. If you have most of your pre-reqs done that helps too. Good luck!

Hi, I know the TEAS can be difficult for a lot of people. I would suggest she get the ATI TEAS book and the practice tests. She can treat studying as a class over the summer and really learn the information well. I found that the key to the test in some parts was just learning how understand what the test was asking, or learning the test style. It may be worth the class or better yet, employing a private tutor for her problem areas. When she took the test, she should have gotten a print out of the areas that need improvement. Use that as a study guide. I know the test can be daunting, but she can do it! Keep at it. Wishing her luck! :)

Well... we got less information than I was anticipating. I was hoping there would be more info on costs and schedules related to the program. Maybe even an overview of what we can expect our first week of class. Oh well...

I had to double check that I had not unknowingly authored this topic myself! I'm in your exact situation, just finishing up orientation for a cardiac tele 7p-7a job. I am also in school now, for the next month or so. I'm already feeling the crazy coming on with learning how to schedule my time so that I can do homework, study, work, eat, sleep... oh yeah and pee. haha. I start nursing school in the fall and will probably go down to a PRN schedule once that starts. I appreciate the responses you've gotten as I also don't really know what to expect! I'm so excited though!!! Good luck!!!

Congrats thomas0831 !!! I'm getting really excited to get the ball rolling. Are any of you starting to get supplies? I am looking into purchasing a stethoscope soon. I'll probably ask at orientation what is required but have any of you gotten any other things for school? I've heard a rolling backpack can be very useful. Orientation cannot come soon enough!

Jamie, I don't have anything valuable to add to this post, however, I also would LOVE to be a flight nurse or even a Trauma I RN. I'm in Charlotte and hope to work towards that goal. I'm just in school working as a CNA in the hospital system, hoping it will help me get my foot in the door when the right job pops up (and I'm ready). It sounds like you are already doing everything you can to get there! :) I would suggest you get a job with the hospital of choice at any capacity. Then NETWORK! Anyone who you talk to is a potential connection and the key to your dreams may just be within reach. Good luck!!!
