I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Congratulations to all who were selected! To all those who weren't, hang in there...This whole process has been killer! I just got word yesterday that I was selected as a new grad in the Med-surg, and will be leaving for COT on Oct. 17. and then for NTP on Nov. 28-Feb. 15, and then stationed in Lackland, TX.
Who else out there got selected for Oct. COT? Anyone know anything about Lackland? My wife and I wasnt to start preparing for our 2 children. It will be hard having to leave school in the middle of the year, even though they are 5 and 3yrs. old.
tee_byrd, Hi, this is fly-fight-win's wife. :) We used to live in Alexandria, VA, and knew some people who worked at Andrews AFB. At that time, housing had a long waiting list, and people typically had to live off base for a year before getting into base housing. That was a few years ago. It could be different now.
If you have facebook, search for an Andrews housing page, which should have pictures. Keesler has a pretty detailed page.
If you want, send me a private message with your email, and I can share with you the name of the apartment we lived in in Alexandria (if you are interested in living in Alexandria). It was fantastic, and at least half of the residents were military families.
Enjoy Andrews! We had a wonderful time in the DC/Alexandria area. Lots to see and do. We miss it.
does anyone have pictures of Travis on base housing? I can't find anything on the net. Also does anyone know what the wait time is like to get the on base housing?
They have a copy of the waitlist on there also. It looks long
babieblue2,
Here is a website about Travis. http://apps.mhf.dod.mil/pls/psgprod/f?p=MI:PHOTO:0::::P2_INST_ID,P2_INST_EKMT_ID,P2_TAB:775,,PH
Great photos and general info. If anyone else wants to look up your AFB heres the website. http://apps.mhf.dod.mil/pls/psgprod/f?p=MHF:RELO:2473438841410815
Under the Get started section, type your AFB. Great general info and pics. Hope this helps.
To those of you PCSing to Keelser,
I've noticed several of us were given orders for Keelser. Including some who did not have Keelser on the preference list. Does anyone know why so many of us were assigned to one location. I know it's the 2nd biggest AF hospital. And I've heard they are building a brand new medical tower to open this fall??? Anyone know their deployment schedule???
Yeah, that thought crossed my mind as well. As Keesler is the closest location to my home. I can see the military/goverment trying to cut costs in this area, so PCSing you to the nearest appropriate base would make a lot of sense.
Also to clarify my last post... I'm not wanting any to break OPSEC, just wanted to know in general why the nurse build up at Keelser... ie. new hospital wing, influx of pt population, etc.
Thanks for the websites fly-fight-win! very good info. I have more questions about moving and bonus's
1. The air force will send me to my station end of September. But my spouse can't come until October. Will they pay for my spouse's mileage like they will mine? also if I come in September can my belongings wait till October to be moved?
2. I asked my recruiter about the sign on bonus and loan repayment. The past 12 months they have said the sign on bonus is for sure, but the loan repayment is only if there is $ left when they get to you. Now what I'm being told is the sign on bonus is the same, that neither the sign on bonus or loan repayment are for sure. All I can do is apply for them and see if there is $ still in the budget for them. Anyone else hear different? I applied for ghe sign on bonus and loan repayment when I sent in my original application packet. Do I need to be filling some other paper work out to make sure I get it?

Fedex'd my fingerprints back to my recruiter... awaiting background check results now.
I'm headed to Travis as well. Currently living in the Fairfield area and I like it quite a lot. Fairfield itself isn't anything special, but the proximity to the bay area and Napa is definitely a perk. It's 45 minutes to Sacramento (with a plethora of hipster bars and taco restaurants downtown and not much else) and an hour and fifteen minutes to San Francisco, depending on traffic. Napa's 20 minutes away and there are many many wineries less than 15 minutes away. Haven't done a lot on base and can't say how I'll like the hospital - time will tell I guess but it is one of the larger air force hospitals.
Crime stats indicate that Vacaville is a "safer" area but Fairfield honestly seems just fine to me, although like any town there are places I wouldn't choose to live. We thought about liviing in Napa but the traffic between Napa and Travis is a nightmare during rush hour and it's nice to have a destination.
