November 2010 Air Force Board Selections

I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

If our packet isn't selected the first time we have zero chance of applying again? I wish I knew what criteria counts most for the selection board that way as I complete my packet for the February 2011 board I can try to make it stand out. Crossing my fingers for you w2cross2blue and I hope everybody that applied gets selected.

Great news!! Thanks for the update!! I'm definitely getting anxious to hear the results, good or bad! Good luck to all of us, definitely lots of praying gonna be going on these next few weeks!!

Thanks for the update!!! So glad we will our have an answer in the next few weeks. I will be praying that we all get what we want. Let's keep each other updated as we hear!

I'm confused...if we're not selected, we can't have our application resubmitted? And I'm guessing since you weren't told that you weren't selected, that you were picked? How long has your journey been in applying to this point? I'm so discouraged!

akellyrn, I am still in the dark. I have not heard an answer yet. I am anxiously awaiting!! My recruiter told me that there were 3 possible answers from the board.

1. Non-select: means you cannot apply again to the Air Force Nurse Corps, but you can apply to other services, ie. public health, navy, army, coast gaurd etc.

2. Alternate: means you get "held over" and compete again at the next board for an available slot.

3. Select: you get a COT date and an assignment.

I hope this helps!

Folks, don't lose heart. I was there last year just like you. I turned my packet in Oct 28, 2009. I had been told that I would probably be given a January COT date. January came and went with no work. March COT date passed. I was so disheartened. BUT..... I went to COT in May. I'm at my 2nd choice duty assignment, which I'm thrilled about.

The wait is horrid and frustrating. Keep on living your life and be hopeful.

For the Army you can resubmit your application the following Fiscal Year (Oct).

Hi all, i submitted my packet some time last month for the upcoming jan boards. however i am getting a little worried but cause everything is due by jan 2, and i have not heard from my recruiter concerning my interview or my physical. For those of you that have passed this portion, how long did you have to wait before everything was completed? Im starting to thinkg that possibly i'll have to wait until october's boards. i was told its only jan and oct board selections.

thanks

anderm22, just talked with my recruiter today to ask the same questions. He told me that as an alternate I would be offered an assignment and COT date for 2011 if any more positions are approved or if someone else drops out. He told me if that didn't happen then I would get a spot for 2012 at the 2011 fall boards. He said I would NOT have to resubmit new MEPS, new interview, new letters, etc., and would "for sure" get a slot. He said even as an "alternate" I was considered "selected". Does that make more sense? However, I am not sure that this scenario has ever happened before and I am unsure if this is just what he "hopes" will happen. The whole accession process seems to be in such a state of flux right now. He did send me paperwork to sign that I would agree to the sign on bonus if a position becomes available for 2011 and he told me that they had approved the 30K for 2011 for 4 year committment :yeah:

Thanks w2cross2blue. It's good to hear from someone hearing the same thing. What number alternate are you. I will tell you a few things my recruiter is saying. He is out of omaha, ne and says in his experience he has never heard of an alternate list for nursing. This is something they have never dealt with before....too many qualified applicants for only a handful of jobs. However I was NOT told i had a for sure spot in 2012. He said that as an alternate they will go down the list if more jobs become available in 2011. Then in oct 2011 as an alternate i can just resubmit my same application packet and don't have to redo the interview, MEPS, essay, etc. According to him if they don't get to me as alternate #11 then I am thrown back into the mix for another october board. Also i did get the AB contract to fill out in case i'm called up like you. Thanks again and hope you keep posting here and keep us all informed with what they are telling you. I'll do the same.

and,

Sorry to hear that you were not selected but at least you were put on the OML, like you Recruiter stated that is a whole lot better in the eyes of the Board than if you were not selected at all. Being that you are #11 on the OML and there were 11 RNs taken I wouldnt put my hopes up of being Commissioned since you have 21 ahead of you for 11 positions. But next year you could reapply. There would only be a few forms that you might have (re) fill out but not much. OR you could also put in an application with the Army as well and see how it turns out. I have heard of many people putting in applications with both services to see what comes up. As a Recruiter I dont mind if my applicants do this because it is THEIR career that they are looking out for, but there are those Recruiters that may not be user friendly if you do this because they think that they are spending all their time on your packet and you might not even go with their branch of service. In my opinion its all about the Applicant and less about the Recruiter. What ever gets you to serve is all I really care about.

Good luck.
