November 2010 Air Force Board Selections

Published

I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

crossblue,

Did you NOT take the Student Loan Repayment? Did you just take the bonus of $30K?

As a Recruiter I would have to say that anderm's Recruiter seems to have told more of the facts than crossblues. I am not saying that what he said is not true its just that the Recruiting procedures are pretty much the same across the the board and the incentives are basically the same. Physicals are good for 2 years, most docs have a 1 year shelf life before they have to be redone. Motivational Statement, reference forms etc....

Having talked to other service Recruiters they pretty much have the same process. In the Army those that are on the OML and not taken off the list as well as those not selected are able to resubmit their applications for the following year. However, those that are non select seem to have a tougher time the 2d time around because there tends to be an issue as to why they were not selected -this from the grapevine. In Recruiting there is no "SURE THING" as crossblues Recruiter put it. We have had Opt. HPSP applicants with a 4.0 that didnt get selected. That kinda stuff blows my mind.

The reason that OML applicants have to resubmit their packets for the next FY board is because even though you may have been #1 on the OML for FY 10 if they hold a new board for FY 11 there may be more qualified applicants who would rank higher than you. I know it kinda "sucks" to be #1 on the OML one year and not be guaranteed a spot for the next FY but that is the way it goes.

As far as the Recruiter stating that hes never heard of it before, I find that strange because the AF has limited positions and they tend to run out of positions on many Specialties.

I would say good luck to you but that would mean Im wishing bad luck on someone else lolol.

Take care and if you are not picked up that will just give you more time to gain experience for the next board.

Thanks SFC Jimenez. I am trying to go into this with my eyes wide open and I appreciate your information. My recruiter has been awesome and I know he has invested major time and energy in getting me to the place I am in the selection process. I am #2 on the emergency room specialty list. I don't like the idea of having to compete again for selection but I am fortunate enough to have a good job and time on my hands. I didn't apply for the loan repayment because I have already paid off most of my school and it was a much better choice financially to take the bigger bonus.

My recruiter told me the same thing about there only being 11 people selected from all the applicants. He said I was one of the people selected (I made him repeat it just to be sure), but that it'd be a couple of weeks before he'd know when I'll leave and where I'll be heading. I had no idea how competitive it was going to be so I feel bad for the people who didn't get selected. He told me all this about a week and a half ago and I'm still waiting for the next call. Has anyone heard anything new?

in addition things expire - i know on the army side the letters of rec are recommended within 1 year from board date and physical has 2 year expiration from physical to the time of commissioning (for new accessions)....

Congrats Calvin.. hopefully we all hear something soon to know our status in this process as well.

Congrats Calvin and welcome to the forum! What specialty are you? What were your dream sheet choices? Hopefully you will hear something soon.

Congrats Calvin!!! Amazing to be selected. The last time I applied for anything that was so tough to get into was actual nursing school when they took 40 out of 300. The Air Force is even more selective!!! You are the first person on here that has posted they have actually been selected. Not to be snoopy but I just want to know where I stand as far as the experience you have. I have 3 years Med/surg, 2 years CCU charge, 1 year ER charge. and I'm 26 years old. Just want to know what it took to be selelcted. again, Congrats!

my specialty is ICU. i graduated from nursing school (second degree) in august '09 and have been in ICU since. As for my dream sheet, there were limited choices because not every place has an ICU. I had 1. Colorado Springs (just b/c it looks like a cool place) 2. Lackland 3. Brooks City (I'm from Texas so why leave if I don't have to) 4. Keesler 5. Eglin (basically, with the exception of CO, I wanna try to stay warm). My recruiter said my app was strong and I guess it was b/c 2 degrees and my references were good (one from an AF officer and another from retired Navy), plus I felt like I hit it off in my interview. I still haven't heard when I'm leaving or where I'm going, but I'm trying very hard to be patient. I hope yall get in too!

Thanks for sharing Calvin! I was unaware that Colorado Springs had an ICU. I hope you get one of your top choices! Do you mind sharing what your other degree is? I know those of us that were non selects and alternates would love to know what it took to get a spot at this last board!

Update:

I called my recruiter today and she said that she has not heard anything as yet if I moved up on the alternate list or not. I asked if there was more than one alternate list... which she made it clear that it was more than one list. As far as competing again at next borads, she said I dont have to worry about that because as an alternate, that means that your in but just done have an spot as yet to go to COT.

I know that we all have been hearing different things from our recruiters but that little news that she gave me just made me feel better until I hear something more concrete. She also said that if I dont move up on the list then I will probably be going to COT in Oct 2011.. I hope this little info I got helps but if I hear something else I will be glad to share...

Thanks tee byrd! I heard from my recruiter today that I moved up to #1 alternate spot for emergency department! Yippee! He told me there is a scheduled board this March but it is just to fill any unfilled spots. He said most of those were nurse practitioner positions. He also told me again that I would not have to "compete" again at another board but was already considered "selected" as an alternate. I don't know if he is just that confident that all the alternates will get picked up before the end of this fiscal year or what. I am glad to hear you are hearing the same thing from your recruiter.

I cant wait till im #1 also.. Actually I cant wait till she tell me I got a COT Date.. lol

So W2cross2blue.. You'll probably get a spot or be offically selected after january COT..
