November 2010 Air Force Board Selections

I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

UPDATE:

So I got a call from my recruiter today and she said that I might be leaving for COT in August because she got a phone call telling her to prepare the selected and non-selects for possible cot date in August. Now the anxiety is kicking in.. Im getting scared just because August is around the corner. I couldnt talk to her long because I was busy at work but when I get more info I'll udpate you all..

Unfortunately my recruiter is out of the office until next Monday:( I will have to wait.... Which I happen to be getting quite good at! I'll keep you posted on any new updates!

anderm22, Thanks so much for the update. My recruiter has been in contact with me about every two weeks since November which has been great except that he has no news for me.. Not his fault though! I would like to know some dates and where I am going prior to one month before leaving!

I received a call from my recruiter today asking me if I wanted to go to COT next month. She said she needed to know by end of the day cause she had to let them know. I guess slots are opening up, but I told her I couldnt go cause its too soon and I need to prepare and give my job notice.

She did tell me that the non-selects are getting their papers re-submitted which in my opinion is good cause it gives people another chance to get in.

I felt like i was in a dream cause 1st it was all this waiting now everything is moving so fast. I was originally alternate number 7 (I think). Now Im preparing my mind and finances so that I'll be ok for at least 3-4 months while I'm there.

Wow! That is exciting! I am supposedly #1 on the ER alternate list, although my date I gave them that I could leave is not until July5th. I am contractually obligated until June to the VA where I work as part of a tuition reimbursement scholarship I took when I went back to school to finish my BSN. I am hoping for August or October COT. My recruiter did tell me that the sign on bonus would still apply for 2011 even if one didn't go to COT until 2012 as long as the offer was made in 2011.

suppose the sign on bonus is bigger for 2012.. then will we be obligated to the 2011 bonus or the 2012 bonus

I am currently #3 on ER wait list. I got a call today from my recruiter who asked if I could go in May. This was totally out of the blue. In fact I had emailed him last week and he had said there was no new news. After freaking out and taking several moments to process it all, I did accept. I was told there are 5 spots total open for May, and anyone waiting can get called for one. I'm told that even though I accepted if the spots are already filled then I'll be back on the waiting list. I wont know anything till later this week. Only problem now is how to get out of my apartment lease early. I'm out in mid July. Anyone with experience getting out of contracts with military orders, I could use your help/advice. Thanks.

I was afraid the bonuses might go away for 2012. It would seem like they would not be offering sign on bonuses if they are turning nurses away. In any case, I doubt the amount would be increased. I think it has been the same amount for the past couple of years.

I think most will let you out of your contract if you explain your situation. That's great news that people are starting to be moved into COT classes! I told my recruiter I would like to wait until August or later. If I go in after August I would go in as a Capt. I could not go in on short notice because I need to sell my house. I'm really worried about that, given the state of the economy. I'm sure we are going to lose a lot of money on that! as for the bonus, I sincerely doubt it will be bigger next year. once again with the state of the economy, budget cuts, and all of the nurse applicants. bonuses are used to draw applicants, with all of the non-selects and alternates that is clearly not a problem.
