I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
hubrn, Thank you so much for the updates. My recruiter being out until Monday is killing me! I am so relieved that the numbers for next year are finally being released. Did your recruiter tell you any other specialty numbers. I know I am ER but I am sure the OB, ICU, and Med/Surg folks on here would love to know their numbers! Thanks again for the update!
Thanks for the infor...This is so exciting to know that everything is working out. Im still a bit nervous. hopefully they will allow some of the non-selects to get in..
w2cross2blue.. if your recruiter calls on monday and wants you to go to cot in may are you taking it..
plus theres another cot in july. I think I'm going to wait until august.
I can't leave the VA where I am working until the end of June:( I am wondering if their will be slots in the July class. I have read through the forums and it looks like this is the "summer surge" class when all the med students have to go due to their school schedules. For my kids and husband, I think the August or October class would work the best for us. However, it given the chance I think I would go in July just to get started on the journey! My application says I can't leave until July so I don't think I will even get offered the May class. It is such a relief to see something finally happening after all the months of nothingness!
Hi everyone, this is my first post ever but I've been lurking for a long time. I also got the call today with an offer to send me to May 23 COT. This is a full 18 months after I started my application process. (My wife went to COT in Feb and is currently stationed here at Travis). I spoke to him yesterday and he told me I'd been bumped from #8 alternate to #4 and would likely see an August COT, then he called me again this morning and told me he'd been emailed by his superior asking if I could go in May. I took a few minutes to think it over and called back and accepted. He kind of indicated but did not say explicitly I should take it rather than delaying till August, I guess it's not good to show any hesitation and I definitely didn't want to lose my place in line.
He didn't tell me what specialty I'd be doing and I forgot to ask... I guess I'll see when I get some paperwork. I'm working with the WA state recruiter since we moved from there pretty recently so he's going to fedex everything to me to sign here and return.
Bottom line is I guess either from lack of interest, the new budget, or whathaveyou, there's space in the May COT and July and August too from what I understand. Anyone else definitely going in May?
Only problem now is how to get out of my apartment lease early. I'm out in mid July. Anyone with experience getting out of contracts with military orders, I could use your help/advice. Thanks.
We just did this: If your lease does not have a military clause, you're covered under the SCRA. When you get a copy of your orders you need to write a letter to your landlord expressing your intent to terminate the lease early and include a copy of your orders. I got my notarized by the JAG office at the local base (doesn't matter which branch once you have orders or an ID card you can use the services at any base) and hand delivered it to my landlord. It's the law they have to honor it. But according to the SCRA it's best to do this as soon as you get your orders because they can still get up to 2 months rent from you from the date you deliver the letter. They'll return the security deposit, but not pet deposits. That was my experience anyway. Here's a link to the SCRA discussing this issue: http://www.military.com/benefits/legal-matters/scra/lease-termination
Keep up the great info everyone! It's nice to stay informed.
Congrats to you peterrn and welcome to the forum! Keep us posted on your time line of events. I am curious how long it takes to get the official letter of acceptance, commission, get orders, etc.. It had better be quick! I noticed the date on the Maxwell OTS site said COT starts May 31st. Maybe you have one more week to work with!
Yes it will be interesting to see how fast everything happens. When my wife went she was on the phone with the orders processing center literally the day before she was scheduled to leave and we were frantically printing PDFs of her orders the morning of. I hope my experience is not as disorganized but perhaps that's too much to ask.
I was also wondering about the start date on the website. My recruiter definitely told me the 23rd but as always better to see it in writing. I'll keep you all updated.
Wow, it has been a really long time since I have written anything here. I have been passed around to different recruiters since this all started. The one that took me to my interview was moved to a different recruiting position. The one I have now was training for this position last year, so I have only spoken to him a handful of times. He called me last week asking if I was still interested in re-submitting my info and if I was still interested in AF. Of course, yes I am still interested. I started this process in 2009!!! Then he asked if anything had changed since last time and proceeded to tell me that there are positions opening up (not sure on specifics) and that if a position I am qualified for is open he can re-submit my information and that COT would be within the next few months. He was going to make some calls to find out what was open and specifically ask about certain specialty areas. I applied/submitted my packet for NICU last September. There were a total of 8 NICU applicants and they only had 1 position open. So, 7 of us did not get accepted. I really hope that they decided to open up some more NICU positions!!! I have been applying to hospital jobs for what seems like forever and still have not gotten a hospital job. Last time I worked in hospital was Spring 2009!! So, I really hope this happens this time. We too have a house to sell, but it is far from being in selling condition and we don't have the money to do what needs to be done right now. With cost of living being so high and gas prices out of control, it's hard to make ends meet, let alone try to do anything extra outside of paying bills and trying to buy groceries. Lets all hope for good news!!!
