November 2010 Air Force Board Selections

Published

I just heard from my recruiter today that the board had made their selections! He told me they were now confirming COT dates, matching up selects with assignments, and verifying credentials, etc. He told me they had not released the list as of yet but he expected to know in the next two weeks. He told me the best case scenario would be that I was fully selected and given an assignment and COT date, the next best scenario would be being selected as an alternate and getting a slot for 2012, and the worst scenario would be being a "non-select" and not being allowed to resubmit an application to the AF:(. I hope we all hear good news in the next two weeks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

..Christi and Babieblue, I will be at COT with you in August! I am jealous that you got Travis. My daughter and I were hoping to become California girls :) I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Glad to hear in w2cross2blue about August COT! I'm sorry you didn't get Travis :(

So for all of us that are going to COT in August has anyone actually commissioned? For those that got May COT, how long did it take to get the final word and commission? My recruiter told me I should hear something within 10 days - 2 weeks from sending off my finger prints. I guess I'm still feeling like this isn't official yet till then so I'm anxious to get it done.

Headed to COT May 31; sent in my fingerprints last Wednesday, got the go-ahead to commission yesterday, and swore in today.

Congrats to you peterrn! That had to be a proud moment! I did fingerprints while at Meps last summer. Did you all have to do a second set? I have not heard a date for when I commission. I am hoping to buy my uniforms at that time. Anyone know if I can do that with just my commissioning paperwork?

w2cross2blue - I did meps maybe 18 months ago or so and I don't recall doing prints at that time. If you're lucky maybe they've already done your background check (but I wouldn't count on it - I know of a few others who are at the same stage in the process as I and they're still waiting for their background check). I would guess that you'll still have to do them again and wait a week or 2 for them to come back before you'll receive final authorization to commission. As far as uniforms are concerned, the OTS website has a list of what you'll be required to purchase. If you have military ID already, you can go on base at any time to buy the items at clothing sales; if you don't have ID you will need to get your recruiter to take you, or wait until you have orders to purchase uniforms, or you can buy them from online retailers. It's cheaper to buy on base, and some of the uniform items will need to be tailored, have insignias sewn on, etc, so you will probably find it easier to do it on base. If your orders are slow to arrive, expect to ask your recruiter to make 2 trips with you - 1 to select the items you'll need, 1 to pick up tailored or special order items after they're available.

Another thing about the list of required items - make sure to only purchase items which are required. For example, I suspect the mess dress may not be required for your august class - it's not for mine - and I'm holding off on purchasing the PT track suit as it may not be seasonally appropriate either. All in all though, you'll probably spent between $900-$1200 on uniforms. If you can get a head start on it, so much the better. Hope that was helpful.

Thanks perterrn for the quick response and congrats!

w2cross2blue: Another set is due for your final FBI check and i did it about a week ago...hoping I hear something soon! I'm guessing there is not to much of a rush since we won't go to COT till August :(

Thanks peterrn and christi! That is helpful. My recruiter and nearest AFB is 4.5 hours away. I am trying to keep my trips to a minimum if possible!

has anyone heard anything about the bonus?

Just wanted to give an update,

I just commissioned Monday 23, 2011. It took just about two weeks from finger prints to commissioning and I could have probably done it the friday before if I would have called my recruiter and asked if everything came back ok.

My recruiter informed me that the bonus is still a go just be patient and expect to wait 3 months or so after getting to my duty station. I was also informed that I would have to wait about 30 days from monday to be into the DEERS system and after that I should be good to go on getting my ID card and uniforms.

August is coming fast and I'm getting more excited as the days pass on.
