  1. Hi everyone I finally got my orders on Thursday . I will be attending October COT and my first duty station will be the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. I am excited but a little nervous about the PT test. I found a facebook group for this COT and I think I remember seeing a good list on here of things to take that aren't on the COT website list. There is a lot of good info on this thread. https://allnurses.com/government-military-nursing/graduated-cot-friday-440396-page2.html
  2. Just to clarify I am Inactive Reserve which is what all HPSP students are I don't actually have any Reserve service time.
  3. I have been an RN BSN for about 5 years and will graduate in August with my MSN (FNP). I did my MSN through the HPSP so I have been commissioned in the Reserves for 18 months, I will recommission as an active duty 1st LT after graduation (My constructive credit will make me a 1st LT with 21 months TIG). I don't know for sure where I will be assigned yet, I'm still waiting to hear back from the assignment coordinator.
  4. I have been told I will be attending COT 12-01 also. Melissa
  5. Hi I too graduate in August with my MSN (FNP) through the HPSP. Did you get your written orders yet and are you attending October COT? I have been told I will be attending COT in October and that they have an assignment they would like to put me in but I don't have written orders yet. I hate to start planning my move before I get written orders. Maybe we will be in the same COT class. Melissa
  6. www.Travisfamilyhousing.com They have a copy of the waitlist on there also. It looks long
  7. Hi. I also have a projected COT date of Oct 17. I think my assignment will be Maxwell, same place as COT, but nothing official yet.
  8. thanks for the reply shapely. i have also been wondering when i might find out where i will be stationed. do you know if i will be contacted or should i start making calls next summer before graduation? i haven't had the opportunity to fill out my preference list yet. do you remember when you made your list? thanks for any info.
  9. mikefnp. i will be happy to help in any way i can. just let me know if you think of any specific questions. for now start to memorize the af mission and values. i tried to incorporate the information into my essay questions. it is also important to know during the interview process. the interviewers will specifically ask you what the af mission and values are.
  10. hi mikefnp. i am in the af hpsp program working towards my fnp. i began the application process in may 2009 and took the oath january 21, 2010. the application process is lengthy but if you start now you should have no problem getting everything done by the start of the next fiscal year (october 2010). i think this is the best time to get your application in so it can be reviewed at the first boards of the year. i don't know how many fnp hpsp students they take every year but i imagine it's not very many. there is a lot to complete including; the application (includes essay type questions, goal statements, info regarding your background, etc.), meps physical, interviews with a chief nursing officer and np, and then the waiting. your recruiter is a major part of how fast things get done. the day i met with my recruiter he had me fill out paperwork to get the ball rolling. he also wanted me to go to meps the next day! at that point i was just collecting information so i waited to go until late june. i had my interviews in august and then my packet went to the november boards. i found out that i was accepted in december but at that point they need to process all of the info so, i couldn't take the oath until january. i began school in august 2009 but the af did not cover any of my tuition/books until the spring semester since i did not commission until january. i hope this helps.
  11. Where can this information be found?
  12. This is what I was told also, but then I read Starla76's post about 6 months mentoring and additional training, I thought maybe I got some misinformation. I was hoping she could let us know how her experience went. Shapely, I would love it if you could let me know how your experience goes. I am an RN with a BSN and 5 yrs experience in an acute care setting and I am working on my MSN/FNP degree. I commissioned as a 2nd LT and was told after graduation/certification I would be promoted to Capt. Does this sound correct?
  13. Hi, I also have a few questions for Starla76. I am currently in the HPSP, and in a FNP/Masters program. I will graduate August 2011, and like you I will not attend COT until after graduation. My questions are: How far out did they give you a COT date and assignment location? How much time did you get between graduation and COT? Where did you get assigned and how far down on your wish list was it? What type of training did you get at your first assignment and how long the training? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer. Melissa
  14. Thanks For the info I should probably clarify I am in the HPSP scholarship program
  15. Hello everyone. I recently commissioned to the AF and will be in the AFIT stipend program for FNP!! I am very excited and proud to have been selected. A little background: I have been an RN BSN for about 5 years and started my FNP program last fall. I am trying to figure many things out regarding the AF. I have never served in the military before. I was wondering if anyone knows if all commissioned officers going into the AFIT program have the rank of 2nd lieutenant when signing up? I was told by my recruiter that you initially commission as a 2nd lieutenant but after graduating with a master's degree your rank is bumped up to Captain. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is true will my rank be "changed" prior to COT? Based on my experiences alone I should have rank of at least 1st LT. I am a bit nervous about everything. I really don't have much to worry about except graduating at this point but after I complete school and start my AF career there is a big difference in pay rate between a 2nd LT and a Captain plus the other benefits of housing allowance etc. Thanks for any help.
