Nursing Students NCLEX

Anybody is taking NCELX in Nov? Let's get together and support each other to go through this. I am taking the test on NOv 19. Studying tips are welcome too.

I am taking it this Monday, November 5th. It looks like I'm the first one to take it from the November test-takers you already have down. I wish that we all pass. This will be my second time. My first time was 3 months ago. (To all --- take a minute to reflect on your hard work and reaffirm to yourself that you will pass. That we will all pass!)

Good luck on Monday, you will be in my prayers!

Thank you all for the prayers, boost of confidence and the camaraderie. I will be back here on Monday night to let you all know how it went.

I followed Suzanne's plan and I am hopeful that I will be added to her list of successful NCLEX-takers. God bless you all. More power to November test-takers. :pumpiron:

Hey rebmen, seems like you will be the first of the Nov test takers. I will be the 5th person on Nov 14, but somehow they forgot to add my name to the list. However, I just would like to take the time out to offer some words of encouragement to you on your BIG DAY ahead of you. Always stay focus and read the questions carefully and understand what the question is asking you, take your time. I wish you the best of luck.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Keep the faith and stay strong.

Always remember God answers prayers all the time!!!

I'm scheduled to take it on Nov. 30th. This will be my second time to take this test, last time I took it was July. I am currently doing Kaplan, going over the course book and answering Q Bank and Question Trainers. So far my scores have been 60% and above on the Q Bank. I'm not sure if this is good enough. I'm also planning to do the Saunders review that I found from this website, but I'm planning to do that after I'm done with my Kaplan course book, since there is a sure lot that I still have to cover.

I really reallyyyyy hope I pass this time!!! I have been going to Kaplan every single frikkin weekday and studying my butt off. Hehe.

I'm scared!! But I feel like postponing my test date. What do you guys suggest? :/

Thanks and good luck to us Nov. NCLEX test takers!! We WILL get that RN license!!!!! :D

Hey, we're neck to neck - mine's on the 16th. Do you have a group together? I have a rather unorthodox way of studying - i.e. will study the immunization chart in one book, think that it's too complicated to log in my brain, so I'll look at another source: for instance, the peterson's course is available online as a pdf, so you can easily search the entire book with the search function. I found their simplified chart easier to "program" in my mind. (if you're interested, this book is downloadable at

http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/NCLEX-PN.pdf.

I think you may be taking the rn, but I think study techniques are the same. I am an rn onlie student, and want to do the pn as a dry run for rn. The main difference I understand is more delegation with the rn test.

Let's stay in touch.

A couple of off-the-cuff thoughts:

The purpose of the NCLEX is to determine a bottom line standard of competency. I used to get hung up on details and rare drugs, and then realize this is counterproductive. Using the example of the immunization info, a typical question would probably ask which shots you give at a year's time, vs. at birth, etc. I doubt if the obscure details are as likely to be tested as the basic stuff. I play this game, using the same immunization question: If I were to tell a young mother about the immunization schedule, what would I say? Ok, hep shot a birth, etc. Works for me. I notice with the "what would you say to this patient" questions, the answers are lacking in medicalese or nurse-speak. After all, this is alienating, and harder to understand.

Also, allnurses has been such a wonderful resource for me that after taking the test, I will be able to let others know what was helpful or not helpful in studying.

Finally, I am bewildered by so many "it's not what I thought" comments about the test. If there are so many practice tests available online, in books and cds, how can this be possible? Worse are the "all my studying didn't seem to help" - my take on this is the person spent too much time learning info, and not enough practicing the test. AS well, the kaplan mp3 lecturers say "this is not a knowlege based test." well, of course it is, but there is far more common sense than knowlege. It strikes me as a real one of a kind test - By doing 100 to 200 questions a day (I rotate with sources, since each source seems to have the same style of question) I'm getting the hang of "psyching out" the design of the tests. I mentioned this in a post somewhere, and I'll repeat it here: The wrong answers have some specific "flavors" to them. I'll still working on this list, but briefly: Some say the opposite of the right answer, some are right but don't answer the question, some are designed to sound right, but aren't. This last category is useful, because if you are clueless about the right answer, one or two of the wrong answers can put you in the right direction. The reality that the test creators must invent wrong answers that seem right can be a powerful tool in figuring out the right answers.

Is this info useful to you? I'd be happy to hear any of your strategies.

Count me in!
