Not Interested in Nursing after getting my BSN, HELP!

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi! I just graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing this May and I have known for a while now that Nursing is just not a good fit for me. I do not have my RN and frankly I just do not care for bedside nursing. I am currently a Grad Nurse in an ER and I just know that nursing is not my fit.

Does anyone have any idea of other jobs I can have with my BSN?

I was thinking of getting my Masters in Healthcare Administration....

Any ideas or comments with be great!

There are a lot of things that nursing can offer you without having to be a bedside nurse. What you have to figure out is what aspect does make you happy, then look to see if there are job opportunities there.

Sammy, the first thing you want to do is schedule yourself to take the darn NCLEX. Once you pass it, they can't take your license away from you (well, unless you do something very bad, or stop paying for it), and having that BSN, RN after your name will open a lot of doors for you that you can't begin to imagine. Don't worry about all the whining on the NCLEX forum about people failing multiple times-- the very vast majority of new grads (over 85%) pass it on their first attempt, and the vast majority of them don't even take those expensive review courses.

So, then, to fix that knowledge deficit :), your next move is to go to the top of this page at that big yellow bar and click on "Specialties." Lose yourself in those fora for a few days and see what appeals to you, and what doesn't. There's a huge, huge world of stuff out here you can do without working bedside.

Getting an MHA would work, but you'll be more likely to get admitted to a program and to find jobs with that magic "RN" on your business card and resume. Just do it, and then move on.

I really love working with kids. My dream job would be to be an occupational therapist and work with disables children, but I think the schooling for that would be way to long.

I took my NCLEX once ( I didn't mention it in my post because I don't want anyone to have the wrong idea that I am just discouraged about Nursing). I knew Nursing wasn't for me since sophomore year and was convinced my parents that is was..So now that I have my degree I am determined to find something else I will love doing!

Google "services for disabled children" in your state and do a little research on the different organizations that come up. There are all sorts of agencies that provide care to disabled children and need nurses. No further degree required. :)

There are many things you can do as a nurse that does not involve bedside nursing. I agree with everyone, take NCLEX and get your RN because BSN without the RN is not as powerful at all. Look for companies that work with the disabled. For example, some of my friends work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in their clinics or with their camps. You could also try a rehabilitation center with outpatient rehabs for kids! Bedside nursing is not for everyone, but i would not be discouraged or give up- that BSN RN can get open a LOT of doors!! Goodluck!

Be a Public health nurse!

Why don't you try working in medical centre.

i work with GP and it's not bedside nursing, much more fun.

OP, you will find your niche. Nursing is so broad!
