Dear Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Collins, Raven Simone, Joy Behar and the View,

Do you think we get it now as nurses? I hope you get it and actually comprehend no longer is it okay to verbally diminish this profession. Nurses' are harassed, bullied, portrayed as being idiots in the media. The platform that you guys have is powerful, but it is not being used to build someone up instead you attempted to tear this profession down. I totally believe in the first amendment. However, you guys have made the attempt to discredit my profession. If you walked in the shoe of just a nurse” for one day your attitude of us not getting it" would change. I originally was not going to comment because I know they have a right to their opinions. However, I replayed the video multiple times to ensure I heard what they stated clearly. When does a nurse that decided to share a personal experience with a patient equivalent someone reading his or her email”? Followed by give the doctor their stethoscope back it is not okay nor will ever be okay.

I really want to hear back from as much people as possible about whether the view should be cancelled because I am reading the different articles and threads. If the blogs are right 5 advertisers pulled out. Please do not forget to answer the polling question and share.

I don't think it should be canceled because of an idiotic comment. I think it shouldn't be aired in the first place because it serves no purpose and holds no value that positively contributes to anything (of course, for some reason, others may disagree). I feel the same way about the Kardashian show and Jersey Shore, but these shows still somehow brought in revenue and continued to air.

I voted "No" and "I don't care." I don't watch this show to begin with, so I am doing my part to not support it. Their comments were stupid, but they say stupid things every day on that show. Perhaps the hosts really think low about the profession, but I think they were trying to make a joke out of something and failed miserably. Life goes on. Nurses are strong and have tough skin - does it really matter if the show is cancelled or not? We know how hard and challenging the profession is and that is all that really matters.

Do we really need five threads on Joy Behar, Ravens r.b.f., and this trashy show?

Can we focus our energy now on using social media to effect change within healthcare?

I AMAZED THAT NOT ONE HOSPITAL OR AMA PUBLICLY BACKED US AS NURSES SAD...BUT TRUE ( I think personally they do not want to be accuse of not supporting the first amendment.

Or maybe they recognize that none of this is particularly significant ...

Maybe... I am trying to read the different thread each time I gain a different perspective.

I've been offended and hurt by comments made by many people (patients, co-workers, pedestrians) regarding my race and treating me a certain way based off my ethnicity but I've learned to not take it to heart.

I'm better than that and I sleep peacefully at night knowing I'm not the type to be prejudice against a certain type of people and can interact with patients who speak 2 other languages besides English.

Let it go. No comments were directed to you. People will have their opinions. Move on from this and continue to do the best at what you do. The people on that show have no clue what it's like to be in the shoes of a nurse and they will probably never know. We should all just move on past this issue and take the high road.

These View posts got old as soon as they started.

Although I think Miss Colorado makes an excellent spokesperson for the nursing profession, I also have a hunch that the 'personal experience' she shared regarding the Alzheimer's patient was partially or totally fabricated.

She received her RN license a few weeks ago and has no real work experience as a nurse, so I think the conversation is a figment of a vivid imagination.

However, I'll reiterate that she would be an outstanding spokesperson for the nursing profession. She's smart and articulate. Moreover, the public tends to pay more attention to what's being spoken when the speaker is a conventionally attractive person such as Kelley Johnson.

So all this is over a lie? Wow.

She is a 2015 graduate and was Valedictorian of her class and works in an ICU.

It is not very nice, or very fair, to conjecture that the basis of her monologue was a "lie."

There is a safety issue in our profession that can not be ignored any longer.

There is one factor that improves outcomes, decreases lengths of stay, decreases hospital acquired infections and complications and that one factor is nurse patient ratios.

This has been validated and endorsed by the Society for Critical Care Medicine as well as research done by Linda Aiken at UPenn and research done at Harvard and the Cleveland Clinic.

Please sign this petition to President Obama requesting legislation for nurse patient ratios in all fifty states. Thank you.

Read carefully. I never said Miss Colorado lied. I said I had a hunch that her monologue may have been dramatized or partially fabricated to make it seem more interesting. That's my hunch and I'm sticking by it.

About 30 years ago, there WAS a Miss America who was a Diploma Grad RN. I think that she was from the Midwest. I remember when she came to my hospital in California on a PR Tour, the hospital auditorium was PACKED WITH DOCTORS!! It was standing room only and the nurses could not get a seat!!

Is anyone surprised??

Lol, I'd wager a guess it wasn't to see the famous RN but more that Docs were hoping to get a glimpse of a beauty queen in her bikini!

I don't agree. Having worked with dementia patients and having relatives with dementia, there is no reason to have to add drama or fabricate. It is provided, free of charge.

One story I love to tell is about my very first year as a registered nurse. I was hired as a med-surge nurse but we had to help out the LTC and Dementia Unit if their nurses were sick so you'd show up at work in one town and you'd get sent to the other place in another town 18 miles away.

I enjoyed my time in the small dementia unit. My first shift I was greeted by a handsome man who was probably in his early 60's (not that far from my age NOW). I had no idea, at first, that he was a patient. He was dressed nicely, haired combed, didn't seem impaired.

When he asked me to waltz down the hallway with him though, I understood. And I gladly accepted. Every time I worked that unit, he asked me to waltz. I found out I knew his daughter and called to ask her if it was ok that I was dancing with her dad and she laughed and said "sure!".

Of course, that is the short version of the story and not well-written but I have to get to work and only had literally 5 minutes to write this.

A new nurse does have lots of experiences with patients . . . ..how else would we learn anything? And so do nursing students.

One of my favorite kind of book - Echo Heron's 1st book about nursing school. She has so many amazing stories about patients and her time as a student.

I'm giving Miss Colorado kudos and the benefit of the doubt.
