Has anyone applied for or attends Northwest in Senatobia?
hopefully they like to play together a lot like mine do!As far as the semester they are home - just try to budget your time and not put things off till the last minute (I am the worlds WORST at this lol) cuz you will feel that much more stressed. Also, teach them to do things. My kids have gotten GREAT at rebooting laundry, unloading dishes, etc. When mom is in school kids learn to be pretty darn independant lol..can they make their own cereal? etc. The more supportive your spouse is the better too. There are many nights we just have sandwiches and stuff like that.
I honestly didn't find the english/psych classes to be all that time consuming. My first semester I took chem and A&P in the classroom, worked 20 hrs a week, and did psych/english online. And it wasn't too bad. I'd take those semesters any day over nursing ones lol.
For instance - our teacher can't do a lecture next week so we get to do over 25 case studies. JOY... they just get to change things whenever and we are told to be "flexible" I'm tired just THINKING of how long that is going to take lol
There is lots of good support at this site tho... and it will go by fast. I cried when I went to a pinning hearing all the family dedications and how the students had sort of abandoned their family while in school..it can make you feel pretty guilty. But in the long run this will be a short time out of our lives. I'm thankful my oldest will only be 8 when I graduate..I wish I'd have started when they were even YOUNGER.
Today I was talking to my DH and joked "well I started that TOM..so at least I'm not pregnant!" He said "oh I don't think I'd mind... seeing xxxx baby" ... we recently have some friends with new babies. I said you must be out of your MIND DUDE... I graduate in 10 months...I SURE don't need to be having a kid just before I'm due to graduate...I told him get with me in 3 months and we'll talk (truth be told I don't wanna be pregnant at ALL while I'm in school lol) It does make me a little sad I have to wait to have another child..because there will be such an age gap. But I want to better the life for the kids I have now so I gotta sacrifice somewhere. It's just plain ol' hard being a mom. I wish I had gone to school before they were even born but like I said..glad to be getting it out of the way now... and they are GREAT study partners too! lol
I will NEVER forget what a frank breech position looks like after they did the demonstration for me haha.... so yea we have fun.
Ok I'm PMSing and feeling all sappy today..so I'll shut up now!

Thanks for the tips! My kids do play really well together. The only problem I may have is my 19 month old has hit those "terrible twos" She loves to explore. If mommy isn't looking she tries to get into as much as possible! I have them on a great nap and bedtime routine now though so hopefully it will last! Also, my husband is an airline pilot so he has a schedule where he's gone for a few days but home for a few days and he is my number one supporter! I know he will do whatever it takes to get me through nursing school!
I know what you mean about the baby! I have no desire to get pregnant now or anytime soon! My DH has had baby feaver lately...I just remind him of sleepless nights, bottles, dirty diapers, etc...and he is content with our two!! Don't worry about the big gap in ages! The older they are the more they can help! I am 13 years older than my youngest sister and I loved it!! She called me Momma most of the time! It was fun to get to play Momma back then...little did I know what a tough job it is!! But my babies are great!! No complaits here!!
So where are you going to nursing school? What are clinials like? Anything I can do to prepare myself for it all? Anything you wished someone would have told you before you started? I am so excited I can hardly stand it...but at the same time I'm trying to think of the reality of it all. Any ideas of where you want to work when you get out? What area of nursing?
I go to school in Jackson TN. I guess my only advice is to not expect yourself to know it all the first day. I was soooo overwhelmed in clinicals because I felt like I didn't know what to do. I'm so use to being "good" at stuff and when I'm not I get freaked out lol. But it slowly becomes more comfortable. Although you constantly get something new to do .. new skills so that you never get complacent.
That is part of why I took an intern job this summer..to get more comfortable in a hospital setting. I have never worked in a hospital and it still feels like well...visiting a hospital lol. But now that I'm workign there it's slowly starting to feel like a work environment.
One thing I was NOT prepared for is the level of paperwork. It's a LOT of paperwork. Unfortunately it changes with every clinical assignment and teacher ..and even changes as you go through and are expected to do more assessments and stuff. You have to be very flexible..as are teachers always are wanting to remind us (esp when they can't keep things straight and have to change things last minute..we just are expected to be "flexible"!)
My other tip: everything comes back to haunt you in nursing. EVERYTHING Is important. When I was in A&P everyone complained "why do we have to learn this & that? they teach you this in nursing anyway" umm NO they don't. You are expected to have a base understanding of normal...and they teach you abnormal. So learn as much as you can esp with physiology - knowing how the body systems relate to each other. And psychology - you will use a lot of the growth & development stuff and various theories, esp Erikson, Piaget, and Maslow (so pay attention to those names in psych! lol)
Well I better head to bed - I'm working tomorrow and I have a crapload of paperwork to do this week for pharm (also sprung on us at the last minute - joy of joys!)
If you think of other questions let me know - feel free to PM me too... I'm always happy to help a fellow student... I remember what it was like - exciting but scary - well it's still that way! lol

For those of you in the RN program at NWCC... if you are starting in the fall, have you purchased any thing yet? I know the uniforms are being changed, but I was wondering about the stethoscope in particular. I looked online and there is such a huge span in price... I am afraid to buy the wrong thing. Any suggestions from anyone in the program?
Thanks!!!
Hello,
I'm new here and very excited to have found this website. I have been taking pre-reqs for the last year. I applied to the nursing program (NWCC) in the spring and was not accepted. I will apply again for the Jan 2007 and hopefully, I'm crossing all of my T's and dotting my I's, I will soon be a nursing student. This fall I plan to take Micro and some classes to fluff my GPA. Any suggestions for fluff classes, easy teachers? Are the internet classes easier or harder? I've got to have Eng comp, who is the easiet teacher? I will be going to the Southaven campus. TIA
Would anyone who got into the program or didn't get into the program like to share what they made on the entrance test? I have applied for the Spring but I'm dying to have an idea of whether I will get in or not. Thanks!
I'm not sure what I made exactly, but I know it was in the upper 60th percentile, which isn't fabulous, but I'm in! If you feel you did well, you probably did. Hope that helps!
