glaze78-
Hi, I live in MS, and just finished up high school. I have applied to NWCC-Nursing School, I don't know if I've been accepted yet, but I've been told that I probably won't get into their program until next year sometime. I am starting classes at the college this July though!

Did the person say why it would be next year before you will be able to get into the program? Which semester did you apply for? I applied for the spring semester. Do you know if it's difficult to get in the program or how may people apply to the program each semester? What have you heard about the program?

nwcc's nursing school used to have a waiting list, which was a first come first serve thing. but starting last year i think it was, they decided to do it on a points system. so, your gpa, what you made on the act, and your net, all have a certain number of points. so if you made a 16 or higher on your act then you have a better chance of getting in.
well, they got rid of the waiting list while they still had a lot of people on it, so they first priority is getting them in, so they are going to accept like 50 from the waiting list, and 30 from the new system.
-i hope i'm explaining this correctly-

i actually applied for the fall '05 semester, but was told i wouldn't get in the fall, and would probably have to wait till next fall.

i have one friend who applied her freshman year in highschool, and is just now getting in. (she just graduated hs) but i've heard it took a long time with the waiting list and that's why they have switched to the new program.
or how may people apply to the program each semester?
i actually don't know how many people apply to the program each semster.
what have you heard about the program?
i have heard that they have an excellent program! i used to volunteer at our local er, and some of the nurses working there had gone to nwcc, and they said that nwcc had a wonderful program!
well, i hope this helps..and i hope i explained everything clearly. if not, here's their web site, it will take you directly to their nursing program page: http://www.northwestms.edu/programs/2002-03/associatenursing.html

Do you know when they will be completely finish with taking the 50 people from the waiting list? When I took the NET this past May, I remember the lady from NWCC saying something about the waiting list but I don't remember exactly what she said. I do remember her saying something about 30 people. I thought I heard somebody say that this fall semester would be the last semester for taking people from the wait list but I am not for sure. Do you know how many admission points that you get for scores on the ACT and NET?

Hey! I hope you stick to your decision to go to NWCC Nursing Program. I am about to finish my second semester and I love it. I am an officer in SNA and thoroughly involved in the program.
It is a difficult school and it requires a lot of dedication but it is sooooooo worth it. The school's reputation will help you get a great position just about anywhere, and they have a 99% NCLEX pass rate! Awesome.
I waited on the list for two years, taking pre-req's, and then I was called. I don't know how the new point system works exactly, but you may want to retake the ACT if you scored low or borderline, you never know who you will be competing against for a slot...
good luck!

Hi!
I'm going to NWCC this spring to take some pre-reqs and hope to be accepted to the Fall '06 class. I just took the NET a couple of weeks ago and I'm waiting on my results. I have 3.87 GPA and had a 27 on the ACT, so I'm HOPING I won't have a problem getting in.
Of course, I've been out of college 8 years and some of the algebra questions on the NET threw me for a loop. :rotfl:
I find out Dec 5 how I did.
NWCC has one of the best nursing programs in the state. Afterwards I plan to get my BSN through Ole Miss at the DeSoto Center. They have their RN-BSN program in Southaven now so I don't have to move to Jackson. YAY!

Do you think a 24 on the ACT is competitive enough for Northwest Nursing porgram, or do you think I should retake the ACT?
How did you do on the NET? I am waiting to get my scores in another week or so.

The MUW has an excellent program.....I appllied in March or April 05 and was contacted by the end of May ....I had a 3.6 and a 22ACT. I have talked to people that had ACT's of 18 and low GPA's that got in. I am in my second semester and i love it. You will not find more helpful instructors....and they are just fun in general. A great bunch of ladies with years of experience and knowledge.
