Hey I am a NWCC Nursing student now. The reason it's would take her that long is you have to take the tests the semester before you plan to get in unless you plan to take it in the summer then i think you MAY get in that semester depending on the points and how many people actually show up to start. A 24 will be okay to get in most likely. NWCC is AWESOME!!!!! The instrutors are all great. This is the best ADN program in the area. If you have any questions let me know.

Ya'll TRUST MEEEE!!!! Take all the classes you can now because you will be able to take easy hour filler classes then that will help... Like Intro to Comp. type classes. I am going to have to repeat my A&P lab class now. Not because it is hard just because you don't have time to study for them much. This will be like nothing you have ever done before EVER!!! It's great though. I will be in FII when we come back but maybe i will get to see you guys. You are gonna LOVE IT!!!! Congrats on getting in!

I was going to take A&P1 in the fall, but you think it would be better to get it out of the way? I was wondering about how demanding it would be. And thanks for the advice! Any other advice for beginners?

Yes get it all out of the way as quickly as possiable. I am taking A&PII this semester with both labs. I just found out two days ago that I will have to take my labs again because I never studied for them. ALL of my time went to Nursing, Pharm, Clinicals, and A&P lecture. I feel so stupid for not withdrawing from the labs but i kept telling myself i can bring this up all I have to do is study. Of course something with nursing would always come up and I never studied so now I have a D in both labs and it brought my GREAT GPA way down. I have an 85 in nursing, 98 in Pharm, 87 in A&P II but all I do is study!!! Trust me you might be able to handle all of it but don't forget that will put you taking A&P II with MED-SURG!!! NO WAY!!!! I am taking Intro to Computer with Med Surg I saved it just for that reason. You guys NWCC is totally harder than you would possiably imagine. Do whaterver you can to get everything done so you don't have to take it with nursing. Like for example, The lab classes i will have to retake I plan to do at least one this summer and i am NOT a summer school person. The program is not so hard you couldn't take them together but once you enter the program you even dream about nursing! You will not think about anything else. I thought it was just me but everyone in A&P or Micro is saying the same thing. If you have any questions let me know. I also have a yahoo instant messanger you can get me at. sboyett22

What was your clinical schedule like?

Does anyone work who is in the nursing program?

yeah some people do work. The ones who do, usually try to get a job at the hospital. They tell you on the first day that expect tues. and thurs. as their day. At first you go through Critical skills with "check offs" then you go to a "clinical Orientation" You get to pick if you want Tues. Or Thurs. Since you live in Southaven you are likely to get Med. South in Memphis and Baptist DeSoto. You have two clinical rotations so you have the change to change instructors. Each on of them are completely different!!! They are all wonderful though. If you plan to work I would make sure they can work around your schedule. The day before clinical you have to go up to the hospital and get your patient info the first time took me about 5 hours, Doctors come by and need the chart, then nurses, and much less trying to read it and figure it all out, after the first day though it gets shorter everytime you go unless it's your careplan patient then plan to stay another 5 hours :) Once you enter the program you will either LOVE it or HATE it. I LOVE it everything about it. Don't be so nervous, everyone in the class becomes like best friends, young, old, rich, poor, whoever you are you are all going through the same thing together. It's awesome, if you want to go eat and you don't know anyone just say out loud, "Hey does anyone wanna go have lunch and look over this stuff?" I promise you will always have at least 3 people who want to go. I have done it a hundred times. :) The first day they give you a "day by day" it is a calender that you follow every day the entire semester they call it their bible. :) Oh, also there are so many notes you might want to get you some sheet protectors or some of those circle things that fix the torn punched holes, I prefer sheet protectors because it looks better plus you can add notes between the pages. One more thing, unless you get a grant DON"T BUY ALL THOSE BOOKS!!! Ask a 2nd semester students which ones you will need They give you a list of like 40 but actually you only need the 20. NO LIE!!!! :)

Right now I work full-time, but I could change to part-time if I need to. I just wasn't sure if I should change before school starts, or wait to see how to schedule is. Your advice really helps. no you can work full time and handle it until about week 3 into the program you can try it and see. I worked part time as a waitress for most of the semester and did fine ( you know, nothing stressful) but the min. it feels like to much STOP!!! If you wait to late.... ONE test can make or break you if it is sign.. enough

I start the Nursing Program at NWCC in the fall, as well. You have clinicals at the same time as nursing classes. Practically every other day you'll have one or the other.
