Northwest in Senatobia

Has anyone applied for or attends Northwest in Senatobia?

I have applied to NWCC nursing school for the spring 07 semester. I have taken the NET-I scored 76. I have a 21 on ACT-do you think this will get me in?

Also, anything I can do now to prepare for school? I can take 2 classes in the fall-any suggestions? I have everything except my sciences and and clinicals and any other nursing related class (I was a business major-ha!)

What are clinicals like? I'm nervous about it all!

Sorry to ramble--I'm just excited to talk to some people at NW!!

Good luck to you - I think you will do fine with those test scores!! I start in August and I am nervous but excited! I am excited to begin, but nervous about being overwhelmed!

Thanks! Good luck with your first semester! We will have to keep in touch so I can be prepared for what's ahead! HA! Have you taken many classes already? I have the option of going full time in the fall before I start the nursing section-I have a grant for it already. The only problem is I don't have child care until Jan. So I will have to do online and night classes and try to study during the day with my 3 year old and 18 month old!! Do you know when we register for fall classes?

Those scores are great! You should have no problem getting in. Just make sure they have any and ALL of the info. they need for you! As far as classes go, you could take an Anatomy class to get that out of the way, or something like that, if you like. I have no clue what clinicals are like though! I start the actual Nursing program in the fall. Good luck! :roll

I have all the english/history/math stuff finished. I also took Microbiology and the lab last semester to get it out of the way. I am taking A&P I with the lab in the fall with Nursing I and Pharmacology. Most of the people I have talked to say to get the hard science courses out of the way because you won't have to time to devote to them once you start the Nursing courses. The only thing that worries me about that is filling the 12 hour requirement with other stuff each semester.

I can relate to the child care issue. Last year my son was with a different person everyday (my mom or dad or my sister-in-law). I am fortunate enough that he starts K-4 at SBEC this year, so the hours are perfect for me with school. It gives me plenty of time to study before I have to pick him up each day.

I'm the same as you. I have all my history/math/english, etc... finished. I was planning on taking A&P I, Psychology, Human Growth, and Speech in the fall before I start the nursing classes. I didn't know I could take Micro. first. People have told you to take that first? I'm just worried about not having A&P before I start clinicals. I'm also worried about taking a full load without having child care yet.

On the child care issue SBEC is great! I graduated from there and worked in the K5 program for about 3 years. I'm putting my kids (Kobe is 3 and Claire is 18 months) in the Church of God at Southaven. It's there off Church Rd. before you get to 55. I wanted SBEC but I also wanted them to be at the same place so I don't spend half my day driving dropping off or picking up. They have a great program too and they have web cams in all the rooms so I felt the safety was great! I think they are about the same cost as SBEC too. It's so nice to know there are other people in this program with kids. That is probably my biggest concern-I have been a stay at home mom for 3 years so I hate to leave my babies. But at the same time I think it will be great for them to get out for a little while! Anyways, I'm rambling... We will have to keep in touch while you are in class so you can prepare me for what's ahead. I read one of the earlier posts about not buying ALL the books suggested until you talk to someone who finished the semester before you...Maybe I can get your books from you or somthing. Talk to ya later...

Actually, they tell you not to take Micro until you have had A&P1 and 2, but Micro worked with my schedule, and I didn't realize that until I was already attending class. I spoke with Dr. Rinaldy about not having the A&P classes and he told me just to stick with it and work hard... I did, and I made an A. If you haven't started the science courses yet, I would definately take them in the right order - get A&P finished first.

I'll definately keep you posted!!

What all do you have to have in before the deadline in October? They have not sent me anything! I never even received a letter from the school saying I was accepted. I just received my grant letter so I called and they said I had been accepted. Who should I contact, admissions or the nursing department? Also, I know I have to have a CPR certification. Where should I go to get that?

Contact the Nursing Dept. and tell them you haven't recieved a letter of acceptance, and that you would like a nursing packet, also. They should send you everything you need in one envelope. As far as the CPR class goes, you can go to the local American Red Cross to take a CPR class, or you can take the one they provide during the first 6 weeks you start your nursing classes. Be sure that you've been accepted into the Nursing Dept., in addition to general admission. I made that mistake, and it caused me to have to wait an extra semester.

Thanks for the advice. I did call the nursing dept. and everything is set. I have another question though. I have decided to take a full load in the fall before I start the nursing program. The only problem is that I will not have child care for my 3 yr. old and 19 mo. old until jan. These are the classes I have left to take: A&P I, Psychology, Human Growth, and Speech. I have to decide whether to take these at night or online. Any suggestions? I would prefer to take them all (except A&P) online. I just wanted to know if I'm being realistic about having enough time to complete all these classes. Thanks for your help!

RNStudent - I am a student in TN but I live close to MS so visit this board too :D

I took ALL my gen ed except A&P and Micro online (oh well and I took chem too) My kids were little when I started too. I HIGHLY recommend online if you have childcare issues. Honestly I didn't spend all that much extra time..probably about 3-4 hrs a week per class. Not sure how your school does it - but at mine we were able to take our exams over like a 4 day window. So you really can work it to your schedule. I would never be this far without online options...I graduate Spring 07 and will do my RN-BSN online.

I recommend getting all you can out of the way before starting nursing classes. I have all my required gen ed done for the ADN program. I've been filling my full time hours with other gen ed stuff required for the BSN (for instance history - taken online) That way when I graduate with my ADN all I'll need to take for my BSN will be the nursing classes

The only thing - speech -- all the online speech classes I've ever checked into have required you to film your speeches in front of like a min of 12 people...you might contact the instructor and see how they handle that portion of the class. But yea English, Psych, History, all that take online! :D

Thanks for the advice MommyNurse2b. Any advice balancing family and school? My kids will be in a preschool when I start the actual nursing program and they are excited about that! Any advice for the semester beforehand when they're home with me and I'm trying to take a full load? That's a great idea about taking your BSN classes as fillers during your RN--I may try that too!!
