Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
I don't mean to jump into your conversation, but I just wanted to add a little comment.I took Microbiology with Ms. Silva, and she's great!!!
She can be little tough on lab stuff, but you'll like her!
Oh... the "unknown" part of the lab is the hardest!
Thanks!! I've heard she's good, that's why I picked her. I also heard that she does 3 unknowns whereas most teachers only do one.
BTW - for anyone starting this on the 28th.... have you starting reading any of the books we've gotten?
I skimmed over the fundamentals & Med/Surg books, started reading the first page of the first chapter.
I'll probably get serious and read the chapters ahead of time before the first lecture (Wed 8/30). I don't want to have to read double the amount the next week before the 2nd class.
I took it Fall of 2004 at Mountain View... It was a half telecourse program.Lecture was through a series of videos, and I only went in for the lab stuff.
That's how my class will be. How did you like the videos? Were they interesting or cheesy? LOL If you don't mind me asking, what grade did you make in it?
I didn't like the videos at all! They were made like 100 years ago! LOL
I studied just the lecture packet. The test questions were somewhat tough, but I pulled an A! I guess if you do well in lab, it'll be okay...

If it was the same guy as the A&P II videos, it's a guy that's been retired for 'several years'.
I don't even know if the guy is still alive.

Thanks for everyone's input on childcare options. I normally can think things through I'm just feeling very overwhelmed as I'm sure all of you are as well:uhoh3: .
Katie & Fun- I'm hoping I haven't really messed up while organizing my notebooks. I actually put the syllabus for lecture in my lecture binder and the syllabus for clinical/skills in another binder (I tore them out of spiral and 3-hole punched); however, I have only done this for the information that is to be covered on the first lecture test. When I went to "Keys" class Prof. Stahl gave some good ideas on organizing - one of which is to have a 1-1/2" or 2" binder for each subject (I just did one for lecture and one for skills/clinicals - I'll separate that one later if I need to) and also have a HUGE one for each subject. Only keep the information in the small notebook pertaining to the upcoming test. After the test transfer those notes/syllabus, etc. to the HUGE one and begin again with info. for the next test. I'm going to try it to see if it works.
Fun - what programs do you have on your PDA and from what site did you get them? I don't know whether to get a "package" or get them separate as I think I will need them. Of course, I think that I "need" them all now; but hubby says he doesn't think so ($$$$$$$).

I didn't ask...I just bought. If my hubby goes back & adds the money up, he probably wouldn't like the total. hahahaha
I have too much, but couldn't make up my mind. I have Davis Drug Guide (fadavis.com), Epocrates Essentials (epocrates.com), Micromedex (micromedex.com), Stedman's Medical Dictionary (lexi.com), Geriatrics, MosbyPDQ, Diagnosaurus, Mobile DDx, mobileMDX, Archimedes, Shots 2006, etc.
Some I purchased, some were free, some I got at a discount by purchasing another software, etc. At the end of the year's subscription, I'll know what I like best. I have epocrates for a 2 year subscription, so it'll last me the whole time.
Now, what do I recommend? I like my Davis Drug Guide, but I also like my Epocrates Essentials and the Micromedex. (Davis cost, but Epocrates has a Rx guide that is free, and you can get micromedex free as well while a student.)
Davis Drug Guide is more nursing geared, but I just like them all, and only one of them cost money. lol
Either Stedman's or Mosby's dictionary is good...I bought Stedman's from Lexi.com b/c of it being cheaper....a hint from gaugeIV14. If I see it's not what I need, then I'll purchase a different one later.
The Mosby's PDQ is the same one that came in the book pack...one less book to bring to clinical. :)
I wish the med/surg clinical handbook came on PDA, but it doesn't. I sure hope that company gets with the program. I guess that will be one book stuffed in my pocket or storage clipboard during clinicals. Either that, or I'm tempted to try out a different PDA med/surg book and see if it's good enough for clinicals.
OK....when you say subject, do you mean a separate one for Pharm, Fundamentals, and Med/Surg? So, three different notebooks? How many subjects???????
I like to take notes on a spiral to keep from loosing pages. Do I need three 5-subject spirals? Is each subject taught separately in class, or are they all intermingled throughout the day's lecture?
(Any, "OK CLASSSS, GET OUT YOUR MED/SURG BOOK AND TURN TO PAGE 203?") :lol2:
