Texas Childrens
I was recently hired at Texas Children's. I applied, and they called me back about a week later. I don't know anything about their PICU or CVICU though. Do you live in the Houston area? We just relocated here, and I found that before we moved and before I had a Houston address I was having trouble getting people to call me back.

nursing jobs in texas (austin, houston or dallas)
From what I hear, Houston pays the best, and Austin pays the worst. Dallas is in the middle.

Texas Children's Houston
I'll be working in the ED. What area do you work in?

A question to ponder (insert a little sarcasm while reading)
Yes, they should have given report. Does it always happen? No, unfortunately. When I triage a pt that is like that, I ALWAYS take a second to tell the nurse whats going on. I don't like it when others do that to me, so I make sure not to do it to anyone else.

Methodist Hospital
I applied and interviewed at the Methodist Willowbrook location. Everyone there was super nice, and I would have accepted the job, if I didn't get the other job offer I wanted. I was actually disappointed to have to turn it down because it would have been a great place to work. And I'm an ADN nurse, so they don't only hire BSN nurses. As a matter of fact, they have an on-site BSN program.

Texas Children's Houston
Thanks for the info. Do Friday's count as weekend days? Yes, I feel very blessed that I have been given the opportunity to work for them, but I was seriously shocked at the huge difference in pay. I was making $9/hr weekend diff in Dallas. lol

Texas Children's Houston
Does anyone work there? I just got offered a job there but had a question about the weekend diff. The HR lady told me that the weekend diff was .75/hr (75 cents/hour). Is this correct?

Too Low Houston TX Travel Pay????
I agree. I made almost that as an extern while in nursing school. You should be making twice that as a travel nurse.

ER to ICU....
I am currently an ER nurse who is interested in trying out ICU. I'd eventually like to become a CRNA. Has anyone else ever transferred from ER to CVICU without an internship? I'm really nervous about ICU! There is so much to learn! I'd love to go through an internship for CVICU, but then I'd have to take a pay cut and go back to nights.

tall nursing scrubs
http://www.urbanewarehouse.com Urbane's scrub pants run taller than most, AND on the above website, they offer a "super tall" which comes in a 37" inseam. You can have them hemmed for you on the site or get it done yourself. I'm 6'0" and I've bought probably 8 pairs of scrub pants from them (34.5" inseam, lol) and I've yet to be disappointed. :)

ER to OR
I'm in the same boat as you both, but I doubt we all work in the same ER. LOL. I'm curious about this, too. Any ER to OR nurses? And did you keep PRN shifts in the ER? If I end up going to the OR, I definitely want to pick up PRN shifts in the ER to keep up my skills (IV's, EKG's, bedside manner, etc).

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
Thanks for this advice. I was flipping through the recommended reading chapters and yes, the slides are like an outline to them. Did you do any of the study guides that pertained to the chapters to help you study?

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
Ouch! That sucks. I wish I would have known, I would have jumped you off. Do you know why your battery died?

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
I had heard there was an information seminar going on today at 1:00. Is this still happening?

You won't need a scantron for the math test, and she will call roll so there's no need for a receipt. :)
