I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
Katie, or any of the 2nd+ semester students, didn't you buy the SNA Nurse Pac?Was this all that came with it: "Littman Select stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pen light, pocket protector carrying kit (containing scissors and a 3-color chart pen), vis-à-vis pen for skills lab, all in a custom SNA logo attaché bag"?
.
I didn't buy it through the SNA. I wanted a Cardiology III stethoscope so I bought that online and the blood pressure cuff and the pen light was bought at Majors Bookstore which is close to Parkland off of Harry Hines and I just got a vis-a-vis pen at Target. I also got a clipboard and scissors through Majors. I didn't care about the custom SNA logo bag. Good luck at your orientation!!
Kendra,
I took SPCH-1311 in Fall 2005 and there was a LVN in my class trying to get into the RN program. She had taken 2 different other speech classes before she was in my SPCH-1311 class. DCCCD or the RN program would NOT accept either of her other 2 speech classes as a substitute for SPCH-1311. So I would call someone and find out for sure.
Amy
Also, have you ever heard of anyone substituting one speech course for another? I have taken SPCH1321 and was hoping for a sub so I don't have to duplicate the material.Kendra
Orientation is Tuesday, Jaxia. As far as the bag/backpack, I'm thinking of something smaller to bring to clinicals.
You need a little red wagon to bring all of the books. :roll :roll :roll
LalaJenn, I know Majors well. I think that's where I bought my first two stethoscopes from when I was in MA school. ....Been a while. :)
Isn't there another store around the corner from them, or did they close down? I don't remember the name.
Yep, I'll get a vis-a-vis pen at Staples or somewhere.
Do you all use a regular clipboard, or a storage one? I have a storage one with the calculator. I'm wondering if I should get the one with the nurses' cheat sheet imprinted on it.
I have the storage one. I liked it better cause I had a lot of black pens in there along with papers and my PDA with my drug guide on it and my keys when I didn't wear my lab coat or a scrub top with pockets. What I liked the most was I can sit anywhere and have something hard to write on to do charting.
Not sure about the other bookstore. I only saw Majors there.
I feel like I am from the Middle Ages. :roll
I have a simple clipboard, no PDA, I carry the clinical companion version of med-surg book with a drug book and even the care plan book sometimes. Other than the books I keep everything in my scrub pockets including the steth.

Katie,
Don't feel bad. I am going to be Amy from the Middle Ages!

I have a question about physicals. Where did everyone go to get their physical? I have health insurance but I don't have a doctor that I go to because I am never sick (thank goodness). Was anyone in my situation? If so, where did you get your physical?Amy
hi Amy,
if you have healthinsurance, you shoul have a primary care physician, maybe they asigned one to you. If not call them up and get you one in your area, allways good to have a doctor, just in case you come in there crawling in, cause your back is out ,do to heavy nursing, lol :roll . With insurance your physical should not cost as much ,as when you go just anywhere.

It was the same with me. I just walked in two different doctor's offices and asked if they accept my insurance. One of them had some special price on school physicals so I had mine there. It took about 10 minutes. I wasn't back since then. :)

Amy, like others have said, if you have insurance, you may have a PCP that you have to go to.
If you have a PPO, and can go to any Dr., then you just need to find one that accepts your insurance.
If you want, I'll PM you with a name of a Dr that I *HIGHLY* recommend. He is extremely close to North Lake College, if that is a reasonable area for you to drive to. If not, I'm sure one close by you would work as well. :)
Let me know.

Is your orientation tomorrow?
Do you need more than a backpack? Is that what this tote is good for?
