I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
Wow! Good for you Jaxia! I have never been to California either. There are many places I'd like to go once I finish school (then, I will have the $$$ to travel). California is one of the places that I would like to go to. Let us know how your birthday trip goes.
Amy -- Good point, I didn't think about that. I guess I'll call them on TuesdayI got my study guide and just finished going through it the first time. The reading was trickier than I thought it would be!
I'm going to Northern CA (Napa, Monterry, San Francisco, and Mendicino) for my birthday. I've never been, so I'm really looking forward to it!
Fun -- Yeah, but not soon enough
That's why I took Summer I off, so that I could have a decent vacation. I know I'll need it :)
Amy,
schedule around 3 hours for your Net test , you might not be in there that long. But the math portion is timed to 60 min and the reading to 30 min. After that you have to go through all these questions about your stress level and learning style, which seem to go on forever. That portion is not timed, so you can relax, and it also doesn't effect you netscore.
Know that on the mathqestion, you can skip and come back if time permits, but you will not be able to do that in the reading section. For me the reading was harder, i ran out of time and actually failed the first time i took it. The second time around i still did not get to answer all question, but i made it this time with flying colors:D . Make sure you read carefully and mark the best answer (seemed to me that was the hardest to figure out). Even if you run out of time , the more you answer correctly even though you have unanswered ones, you will come out better. Good luck
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it.
Mysterious -- Thanks for those tips. I'm going to try to take in on a Wed in June, so that is good for me to know, too. I was surprised at how tricky the reading questions were. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to figure out the 'best' answer.
From what I understand, picking the 'best' answer is what makes nursing school so hard. On tests there are 5 answers and all are correct, it's finding the 'best' answer (this is what I was told during info. session a couple of weeks ago). So, I am going to focus on that until I start so that maybe by then I'll be better at it. The first time I did the practice reading test in the NET study guide I did pretty well. I'm glad, because that seems to be the most important. I am having to study the math 10x more than the reading. I just hope I do well enough on both. Also, calculators are NOT allowed.

Amy, Jaxia,
you all welcome. I studied more on the math, too, but maybe should have concentraded more on the reading. I think it was a little harder for me, because english is my second language and maybe i still need to read just a little slower then you natives.:rotfl: Well, you guys will do fine and yes, i heard the reading is designed like that , because the nursing NCLEX will be in the same format. BEST ANSwer, sigh. But we will make it.
I know I had a slow reading rate. I read slow on purpose, but I wonder how slow I really read now. Growing up, I used to always be in an accelerated reading program, and read really fast...actually comprehending it. :chuckle
I think my older, slower mind has slowed my reading skills. :monkeydance:
I've started my Statistics class, but only have gone over different data definitions. I'm still trying to figure out the online text, class setup and how it all works. I figure I'll get down & dirty with it this weekend, or at least by Monday.
Good luck on y'all's summer classes.
Good luck in Statistics :)
I went to my Half Price books and they had two review books for the "Big One." One was the 2003-2004 edition and included the CD for $9.95. The other one was the 2004-2005 edition but did not have the CD for $15.95.
How important are the editions and the CDs? Do the tests change that much from year to year? Is it worth getting either of these books?
I have done extensive research about the NCLEX-RN exam. I have found, from several sources, that the Saunder's NCLEX-RN books are the best. Saunder's latest is the 3rd edition Revised (they have another 3rd edition and a 3rd edition revised). Saunder's NCLEX-RN books have CD's. YOU NEED THE CD. I have just bought 1 of these off Ebay so I can start reading over it so I can get a feel of the kinds of stuff we will be dealing with in school. If you want to know the best way to study this book, please PM me. I got a method from a lady who use to work overseas training foreign nurses for the NCLEX-RN in USA. She swears by Saunder's and says that everyone who uses her method passes, the first time.

Does the CD and books for the Stats class work on an Apple computer?
I don't think so, sunnyjohn. This says Windows & IE is needed: http://www.mymathlab.com/system.html.
Thanks for the luck for STATS...I think I'm going to need it!
As far as the NCLEX books goes, I think one of those versions would be fine to learn the style of questions. I have an older book too. When the time comes to actually study for the NCLEX, I plan on buying a current year Saunders book & CD.
(I think the format is changing a bit too.)

Thanks for the 411 Funnie. I know you will pass with flying colours. Don't study so hard this summer that you forget to have a bit of fun!
A friend promised me an old copy of Saunders. I have to wait until she gets moved and unpacked. I can't wait to get my hands on it just to see what it looks like. It's old, but it's free so I am not complainning!

I am scheduled for Saturday, June 10 @ 8:00 am. I was just wanting a general idea on how long I should expect to be there. I didn't think to ask as I was scheduling my appointment.
