Good luck to everyone!

Fun,

you sure were lucky with your checkoffs, getting 100% on them, El Centro teachers are way pickier.

Well anyways, for you first semester students, that are at El Centro: I was in Mrs. G. lecture class, so I have her reading list, I am not sure of the other teachers, but I think it is the same. For the first day you supposed to have read in Perry & Potter, Fundamentals : Chapter 1, 2, 4, 5 (pg. 74-77) & 7. Then for second week Ch. 2,3,6,8,20,21,22 and Key's Ch 6

Well, I hope that gives you all plenty to do,lol

As for the Stethoscope, I don't think you have to go and spend more then a $ 100 on it. As Fun said , it is good idea to go to a supply store and check some out.

Ok...I'm off to bed early tonight. Test 5 tomorrow....

How was it? Was it hard? Isn't it the test with lots of therapeutic communication techniques questions?

I made an 88 on test 5. It covered the chapters over sexuality, self-concept, family, death/loss/grief, spirituality and perioperative care.

My test grades are 88, 82, 82, 82, and 88. So, I think I need at least a 46 to make a 78. :monkeydance: If I make at least a 78, I'll have an 83 average....a B! :) :monkeydance:

My clinical evaluation is tomorrow morning....9 AM!

As far as the check-offs.....forgive me for taking a little offense to that comment. I realize that different instructors are different, but unless someone saw my check-offs, then who can say how I did. I videoed the last 3, so I was able to do them over and over & perfect them before I turned them in.

Assessment, I forgot to ask about his cough....because he didn't have one, lol and ended up with a 95.

Medication, I found every 'trick', and I think I found mistakes that weren't even meant to be tricks.

While I do understand what you are saying, I hope you didn't mean it in an offensive way. ;)

For that matter, as far as sleep.....WTFudge is that? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: (Maybe a lack of sleep is why I read that comment offensively.) Forgive me. a227.gif

Now I must start studying for my final.

Good luck to all!

Good job Fun2Care!!!! Congratulations on your test 5 grade!!!!

I didn't buy the pack from SNA because I have a bag, BP cuff, and sphymomanometer already. I actually already have an el cheapo stethoscope but I just thought I would get a better one for nursing school. I had planned on the Cadriology III up until recently when I started seeing how much the books and OTHER stuff actually is. Just got an e-mail today about paying and MEDS PUB access....I'm sure that's close to $100.00 itself. I agree with you Fun, they just nickle and dime us to death.

I really wish they would also let you know UP FRONT about all the OTHER stuff that you need to buy besides the books. In orientation they really only mentioned the box of books. They also made it seem like that's all you needed besides uniforms. Thank goodness 1st semester is the most expensive.

Amy

The Clinical Handbook is the one put together by the faculty, and bought at the bookstore.

As far as stethoscopes, don't forget the option of buying all the stuff from the SNA. The steth seems to be a pretty good one from what I've heard.

Also, try going to stores that sell stethoscopes. They may have ones that you can try, and that way you can check prices as well as the sound capabilities. :)

I do recommend a sphymomanometer & BP cuff as well. You need to practice on everyone!!! :lol2: The first check-off is a reallllllllly nervous one. I had to redo that one, and I've done BP's for years!

(Don't worry though, I made 95, 100, 100, 100, 100 on all the rest of the check-offs.) :) It's tough getting through a 78. I cried. :)

Also, Mrs. T is known to be VERY picky. So whoever has Mrs T, make sure you practice, practice and practice some more!!!!!!!!! :)

Good luck & thanks Amy. : )

(Why can't the get it all in one box? ....Because that wouldn't be as much fun everyone!) :lol2: :monkeydance: :lol2: :monkeydance:

Fun,

GREAT JOB on Test 5! I'm sure you are going to end the semester with AT LEAST a B. Good luck on clinical evaluation tomorrow. Who is teaching your lecture and clinical?

Thanks y'all.

Amy, I didn't buy the SNA pack either because I already had 'gathered' other stuff. LOL I compeletely understand about all the money, my tuition & books are paid for until the allotted money runs out. Then, I'll be responsible for paying the rest of the semesters. (Tuition increases, plus I moved out of county.....using it up quickly!) I had been buying things along the way, so luckily, it didn't throw me off too much at one time to get the little extras.

SORRRRRY! I forgot about the charges for the and Medspub! It wasn't on purpose. lol

I sure hope the rest of the semester's aren't so costly!

Here's what is sickening:

I have missed ONLY a total of 39 questions out of 250.

I have gotten right 211 questions out of 250 questions.

...Here comes the sickening part:

Even if I make a 100 on the final, I still can only make a B. :selfbonk:

Do I care that much at this stage of the game? No...it's just the concept of it all. It sure does seem that 211 questions correct out of a total of 250 is really good. :uhoh3:

Oh well.....'nuff 'bout that! Time to get some of that knowledge shoved back in my head! :banghead: LOL

OOPs....I had Mrs. 'J' for lecture. You should have her as well...unless they totally change things up.

Fun ---- A 'B' is GREAT! As is stands now, I will have Ms. J for all 3 of my classes.

Thanks y'all.

Fun,

no , I didn't mean that in an offensive way, just know of some teachers here that tell students upfront on certain checkoffs : Most will not pass this checkoff with me the first time!

Yes really happend! Thank God , I did not had that part. teacher.

Also on my assessment checkoff , I know for sure I did a certain thing and my teacher did not credit me the points , simply because she did not hear me ( so she said). I got a 95, but it still upset me somewhat, but I let it be. From what I can tell, and again this is not meant in an offensive way, you guys at Northlake just have the nicer teachers (hearing students comments and all).

lol...I think both campuses likes to fill the heads of their students with BS. :D

Thanks again.....as I do recall Gauge's comment, "B=Degree". :lol2: (...And if not, C=Continue!) hahahahaha

I'll find out my clinical grade tomorrow, I guess. I didn't kill anyone, so, I'm hoping it's an A. 1119 should be an A, but that's only 1 credit. :uhoh3:

OK.......:trout: gotta get off here & study!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the same situation. I cannot get an A but I can pass with a B if I get 78. Crazy. :smackingf

Mysterious: I had the same problem during check offs. I would end up talking loud and continuously: "I am going to WASH my hands" 5 sec. later "I am WASHING my hands" 5 sec later "I have just WASHED my hands" so the instructor couldn't take away points for not washing my hands. :roll
