Thanks for the tip. They didn't have any of the nurse packs in for the skills lab at the bookstore today. Hopefully soon. I can try to relax, but that's not really what I excel at...lol. I tend to thrive on stress and since I'm done with my finals already, and I'm giving the final in the class I teach tomorrow, I'll have nothing to do until January 16. I can't handle that much relaxing...lol. Have a great night!

It's probably a good thing I never got the fax Kathy tried to send to me, or I'd be obsessing over it instead of studying for my finals :)

Speaking of obsessing, you wouldn't want to meet me anywhere (or I could come pick it up) in the next week or so, Kathy, so that I could get a copy of the packet? ;)

Jaxia,

Have they still not given you an orientation date? Jeez - I could probably meet you somewhere so you can copy it. I got my book box today and just loaded all the CDs on my laptop (it goes everywhere with me, so I figure the CDs are lighter than the dang box!). I will be in Carrollton tomorrow at 11:30 for a Doctor's appt (121 & Josey area). I can meet you somewhere in that area tomorrow if you want. I'll PM you my phone number and you can call me. I'll bring the packet with me just in case. I'm up early as I have to get my daughter to school by 8 am, so call anytime after 7 am. Talk to you soon!

I'm sorry....I called it the wrong thing. I meant Clinical handout, not skills lab packet.

(Which they may not have available yet either.) :uhoh3:

The clinical handout is something you buy separate at the bookstore, or something they give you in class? I knew I had to buy the dosage calc book separate, and the syllabus, but what else do you have to buy separate paper/bookwise (I know about the skills pack - but nothing else)? If they are going to make a box of books, can't they get all the books in it???? Did using the study guides help much (filling out the information/quizzes)?

Thanks,

Kathy

There is the box of books w/CD's.

A syllabus

A Dosage Calculations book

A Clinical Handbook

..and the Skills lab Pac (with gauze, alcohol pads, etc.)

Don't for thet the Drug Screen & Background Check! ;)

Then....there are a bunch of papers that is given to you after you start....at least at NLC there was.

One person in my clinical went and made copies of all the articles that weren't available online & we paid her for the copies. It wasn't that much, and doesn't necessarily have to be done.

I have done all my studying with the study guides. I read the first few chapters, then went back and decided it was better to write and read at the same time. :)

I made quizzes for this test. Maybe you could get volunteers to do that with you. I think it helps review for the test with actual information from the book, not just Medspub or a NCLEX book.

I also answered questions from Medspub and NCLEX books as well. I think that helps too.

Ok...I'm off to bed early tonight. Test 5 tomorrow....

Good luck to everyone taking tests this week!

Go in positive & be determined!

Fun,

This thing that you are calling clinical handout and skills lab packet --- is that the "Clinical Handbook" that is put together by the school faculty? I am just trying to make sure I get all of the right books since I am not buying the "box of books".

EDIT: Good luck tomorrow on Test 5!

Another question for current 1st or 2nd semester students. What kind of stethoscope do you have? What do you recommend? I know Fun has the Littmann Cardiology III but I'd like to know what the rest of you have. I am not sure what to buy and need some imput. Thanks!

The Clinical Handbook is the one put together by the faculty, and bought at the bookstore.

As far as stethoscopes, don't forget the option of buying all the stuff from the SNA. The steth seems to be a pretty good one from what I've heard.

Also, try going to stores that sell stethoscopes. They may have ones that you can try, and that way you can check prices as well as the sound capabilities. :)

I do recommend a sphymomanometer & BP cuff as well. You need to practice on everyone!!! :lol2: The first check-off is a reallllllllly nervous one. I had to redo that one, and I've done BP's for years!

(Don't worry though, I made 95, 100, 100, 100, 100 on all the rest of the check-offs.) :) It's tough getting through a 78. I cried. :)

Also, Mrs. T is known to be VERY picky. So whoever has Mrs T, make sure you practice, practice and practice some more!!!!!!!!! :)

Good luck & thanks Amy. : )

(Why can't the get it all in one box? ....Because that wouldn't be as much fun everyone!) :lol2: :monkeydance: :lol2: :monkeydance:
