Published

Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

Gauge14iv,

Since you have been in nursing for awhile I was thinking you might be able to answer a question about something I have been wondering about. With jobs that have 12 hour shifts do you only work 3 days per week (36 hours per week) or do you work 3 days 1 week and 4 days the next to give you 40 hours?

Amy

And your'e the low man on the seniority totem pole when you start working so you can cross holidays off for a couple of years - enjoy them while your'e in school!

Fun,

Good luck on your test 5 and the final!

Amy

I just finished the last touches on my major care plan....30 pages, including front & back cover sheets. :chuckle

Now it's study time for test 5, which is at 0730 this coming Wednesday!!

My final is Monday, the 11th at 1100.

Wow,.....10 days.................

I'll quote this to keep the question alive. LOL

(Actually, I think all hospitals are different. The VA has 7-4 days. Although....I'm not sure about PM shifts.)

Thanks for the luck! I need all I can get. :) Good luck to you (and everyone) on finals!

Did you take the 4-credit online Stats?

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

3 days per week - 36 hours. By the time you give and get report and such you end up very close to 40 hours anyway. You don't get OT till you go over 40 however.

A couple of questions for those of you currently in 1st semester: What is the ISBN of the "Mosby's Medical, Nursing, & Allied Health Dictionary" (7th edition w/ CD)? All I seem to be able to find on Amazon.com says a 6th edition reprint and it has no picture. Also, is the syllabus required and did you even use it?

I didn't use mine. However, many people did. I know that Mrs. J can pull questions from the syllabus that may not be discussed in the book.

I managed w/o it. Some people think it's better, others think they wasted their time trying to study from it.

As far as the Mosby's dictionary, it's just a medical dictionary. I really didn't used mine too often, but at least one medical dictionary is good to have.

I'm sure it doesn't matter which one.

Fun,

Thanks for sending luck my way as well. I did not take the online Stats class. I did e-mail the instructor during the summer and he said that online students find it more difficult than the traditional taught class. With that I decided to just take a class since Math is not my best subject. That choice has served me well this semester - we have taken 4 tests so far and my lowest grade has been 97. We have our final on Monday and I can make a 60 and still end with an A. :)

I don't have a "final" in either class this semester. I know, I am enjoying that while it lasts! :lol2:

I also wanted to ask you.... I know you bought the "box of books" for 1st semester. Did the Nursing 1423 syllabus, Nursing 1423 Clinical handbook, or the supply pack for lab / clinical come in the box or did you have to purchase those separate?

Amy

Thanks for the luck! I need all I can get. :) Good luck to you (and everyone) on finals!

Amy,

you have to purchase all of those separate. As for the syllabus, our clinical instructor used it, as well as the clinically handbook(which you definitely need). So yes , I guess you have to get those, you never know. And the skills pack , (I have offered it before), I would be happy to sell you for less. I never used mine, since I was in the pilot group , we did all our skills of 1119 ahead of the program and they made us buy the skills pack again. It cost me around $ 50.00 and I didn't use any of it. So if you interested , let me know, I had one other person ask me for it, but that was a while ago and she never responded back. PM me

Yep, they are alllllll separate. They suck every last dime out of you, chew you up, and spit you out. LOL

Actually, even though you're reading so much negativity, it really is great.

I just think it's good to be able to come here to release stress. ;)

Hi to everyone!!

I don't mean to sound helpless or anything, but I am in major need of encouragement!! I BOMBED my Test 4 last monday and now I am failing lecture! I have told myself over and over again it will be ok and that I can make it up on Test 5 and the Final, but I seem to keep getting myself in a slump and I start thinking negatively. All I need to make is a 82 and an 80, which I have done before. I do not want to repeat the semester over again!!! I have worked so hard to get this far and to have it all fall threw my hands discourages me!!! ANYWAYS, if I can have you guys pray for me I would greatly appreciate it! And of course, which I always do, I will pray for you guys!!!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!

Thank you,
