Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
I have been kind of worried about the "niche" with studying also because I tend to do much better studying by myself than in a group.
Fun, you will find your "niche" with studying. It took me a while and I'm still not that great at it but I am in a "comfortable" state. I don't read at all except when I really need clarification on something. I know everyone has a different way but that's mine. Reading is so time consuming and repetitive. You will survive these next tests! If I did it- anyone can! lol. Studying for nursing school is very different than what our pre-reqs were like! I'm sure you've found that out already!
Studying.....I usually study by myself as well. It does get overwhelming though, especially with check-offs at the same time.
As long as I make it through I don't care about my grade so much as I did before nursing school. Horror stories had me well prepared before I started to realize that, as said in earlier threads, B=degree, C=Continue.
Yes, there are A students, and I know I had to be an A student to get in. That's where I leave it. More power to the continued A students...but after graduation and passing the NCLEX, it won't matter what grades were made.
what's so discouraging is, that we all study our buts of, just as we did before , but now we seem to be able to pull only a low B. And when the passing has to be 78 % , that is just so close around the corner. Before we were all in the 90 ranges and did not have to be scared to death going into a test, worried that this one could be the one , that could push us over the edge. And we studied just as hard.
EXACTLY!
Do y'all get a Blueprint for every test, or does the regular lecture class at ECC? If so, do you know if y'alls tests follow them?
Our instructor doesn't give us blueprints. As far as who makes the test up....not sure. At one point she said she didn't, then another time she said she hasn't made the test up yet.
Also what's so discouraging is that all the other schools around here do not have as harsh of rules. 78 would be considered still a decent grade. 77 would still be passing. :angryfire

You guys said that these rules about 78 to pass and 2 grades of 70 were fairly new rules, correct? Does anyone know the REASONING behind these rules....what the idea behind them was? :uhoh21:
Fun, I like your turkey - cute!

The 78% passing is not new. 2 grades of 70 failing and midterm Hesi are new. They say that if you cannot complete the program under these rules then you wouldn't have a good chance to pass NCLEX anyway. (That's the explanation that I heard.)
Katie
I'm not sure if they are new or what, but they are ridiculous!
Even if you make 98, 98, 98, 68, 68, on the regular unit tests, you would get kicked out and not be allowed to take the final. :trout: I guess they figure you didn't learn enough to pass the NCLEX for that info. (...EVEN THOUGH, THE TEST ARE NOT NCLEX STYLE.....NCLEX-QUESTIONS ARE EASIER!)
I say this, and I HAVE PASSED EVERY TEST SO FAR!
As for my lil' turkey...thanks! :) I actually animated it from a free program called "Microsoft GIF Animator". Guess it's time to put my Lil' Drummer Boy up now.

The 2 70s or below and you're out is an old rule that they just brought back this semester. They felt that the odds of someone making 2 grades below 70 and still being able to pull through the semester and pass were not that high which is their reasoning for pulling it back. In my opinion, we pay for our right to fail and we should at least be given the opportunity!
I was told by an instructor that 78% for passing is because our level of learning material for nursing is lower or "easier" than surrounding colleges so they had to raise the passing grade percentage in order to accomodate that. So if it's 70% passing at say, TWU then that's because they supposedly have harder material so the grading doesn't need to be as harsh. This is just what I have been told so I don't know if it's true but I thought I would share.

I think that's probably a crock of crap. ....Probably using the same books, learning the same stuff..... Obviously, all nursing students must learn the same for the same NCLEX. What bag of tricks did they pull that lame excuse from?
For that matter.....they can't compare a BSN to an ADN for that excuse, and I know Grayson county isn't as harsh.
As far as the 70 rule, if someone makes two 68's, but does well enough on other exams to pass for the semester, they should be able to. It is up to them to learn that information before they can pass the NCLEX.
Then again, that goes back to ... the tests ARE NOT NCLEX STYLE TESTS, THE NCLEX REVIEW QUESTIONS ARE MUCH EASIER!!!!!!

I had always heard that El Centro and NL were harder than any other nursing school in town. I even heard it from folks who failed out of EC and one who voluntarily transferred out.
I agree with Funnie. They are blowing smoke up your butt.
Someone is eventually gonna get a lawyer and challenge that "two grades below 70" thing. Can you imagine someone getting 98, 98, 98, 68, 68 and not being allowed to take the final?????? *shudder*.
Very well said.

She was sick...but nothing life threatening. She was eating and choked on food. She lived by herself so there was no one there at that immediate time to help her.
But in spite of that she had a VERY hard life.
