Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
Fun,
You are doing great. Don't think otherwise. Just remember that little quote on your page "If what you're working for really matters
you'll give it all you've got." - that's all you can do. I'm sure you will make it, just have faith in yourself.

I have a 100 average in 1119, and of course 1460 won't be finished until after next week's clinical & careplans are turned in.Lecture is a whole different story. The class average is "C". We have lost 1/5 of the students, and we just had a test today. I hate the fact that this test wasn't before the drop date. So many people didn't do well at all on this exam! I feel so badly for them.

I have an 83 average....sounds good until you realize that ECC's program states you have to have 78-83 for a C. :angryfire I don't think there is a way to study.
I think there is something wrong when 3.77/4.0 students have a C average. I've read, I've did study guides, I've reviewed with other students, I've not even read all the chapters for a given exam.....and still come out with around the same grade.

Hopefully, this last test will be better for me, and will increase my average going into the final.
I sure hope I can handle 2nd semester...if I don't bomb the 5th test and the final exam!
I hope this doesn't freak anyone out. There are a few people making A's, so it's not hopeless.....but the class average is C.
C = Continue! So....back to studying I go!

Thanks Amy. That quote is sooooooooo true too!
I can't decide if I want a beer or a cup of coffee.....LOL What a blaw mood I'm in!
I also think the Potter and Perry book is terrible, I wouldn't say it's contradicting, but it's just terribly written. For this last test, I pulled out my A&P book and studied from the Iggy book about the Acid Base stuff. That Potter and Perry book just doesn't apply it to practice. And that's what we get questioned over.
Our class average is a little higher, and I believe this is only because we were in the pilot group and had a little less stress then the rest of you guys. We didn't have to take the 1119 course, so we had a little more time to study, though you really don't know what to study. I am focusing more on doing a lot of NCLEX type questions, and that helped me tremendous on my last test. But who knows I might have just been lucky.
Here at El Centro , we also had a letter go around , that some students in the other semesters typed up, which is about the 70 rule.( 2 tests below 70 and you out.) It will be send to the director and states something to the effect that we all believe that it should be dropped, because it could just not be fair if a student pulls an average of say a 80 - 95% on all his other tests (just an example). So many students have dropped just because of this new rule they put in effect. I hope this letter will make a difference.
Sorry , i hope I make sense, I am little upset about this issue.
I am so frustrated with this last test as well.....I had a 'B' average....now I have a 'C'. Barely a C, but still! I understand this program should be challenging, but shouldn't we be getting the tools (decent lectures) to be able to understand the material instead of self teaching? I am hoping with my background (psychology/social work) and a little more hard work (since I am completely done with everything else) I can get an A on the next test to pull my average back to B. Thanks for letting me vent! I just don't know what else to do.
I know in one place, the books says that all 4 (resp/met - alk/acidosis) can have dysrhythmia. In another place, it only says three of them. Ok...that is only one minor example, but I have seen several places throughout the semester that is contradicting. Overall, yes, the book sucks.
As for lectures, I like the instructor that we have. I would love to have her for a clinical instructor for OB! However, I do not necessarily like the lectures.
We still don't have the notes from the last 4 chapters, and we were not given the time to write/copy down all the Powerpoint slides. Wednesday before last, she didn't talk loud enough for her voice to be picked up my voice recorder, and this past week, I left it in my car.
(Oh and add the fact that they have Mrs. M teach some of the lectures, but Mrs. J makes the exams. That doesn't help the situation either!)
Most of the time, I do not have the information read before the lecture. So, the answers I give in lecture, which are mostly correct by the way, are just from my knowledge or common sense. So, my question, if I can answer questions in lecture, and I can answer all types of NCLEX questions correctly, what is the problem?
I am soooooo very thankful for my grade, but that grade does NOT reflect my studying habits, nor my common sense.
mysterious_one....I agree about the "70" rule. Crazy.....
Fun,
THANK YOU SO MUCH because I needed all the strength I could have gotten. I just got home from the airport a little while ago. Honestly, yesterday with my mom's funeral was the hardest thing I have ever had do in my ENTIRE life. I honestly don't think I could have dealt with this if I was in nursing school this semester. I do believe everything happens for a reason. She looked so peaceful and I hope now that peace is what she is experiencing.
Amy
Amy you may not see this, but you're in my thoughts & prayers today.![]()

I'm glad she looked peaceful. Was she ill, or was this not expected?
I hope that you can gain strength in time, and know that memories last forever.

One of my friends was actually the one who typed up that letter (in 2nd semester). I do hope it makes a difference if not this semester, then the following ones.
Fun, you will find your "niche" with studying. It took me a while and I'm still not that great at it but I am in a "comfortable" state. I don't read at all except when I really need clarification on something. I know everyone has a different way but that's mine. Reading is so time consuming and repetitive. You will survive these next tests! If I did it- anyone can! lol. Studying for nursing school is very different than what our pre-reqs were like! I'm sure you've found that out already!

Thanks for 'listening' lol..... Sometimes it's just good to get it out. :)
I'm not sure what is wrong....instructors/books/students....whatever the problem, it's a big problem.
Our test 5 is only in 2 weeks, final in 3 weeks.
