does anyone attend this college and if so can you give me any suggestions as to which teacher to take for chemistry!! thanks

Good lord! sorry for all the typos in my last post!!

KRISSRN2B,

Can you share your experience in the nursing program at Cy Fair ? So far I find the folks at Cy Fair a little bit more rude than at Kingwood. However whats attracting me to Cy Fair is the timing of the classes. I believe they are from 8-4 Monday -Thursday.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I'm taking my pre-req classes at Cy-Fair. I'm not going to attempt trying to get into their ADN program. I'll have my assocaites along with introduction to Chemistry and Nutrition completed this spring semester and then I'll apply for TWU or UT. So far my GPA is 3.6. I'm hoping to bump that GPA up with my last three class and not have to re-take a class just to bump a "B" to an "A". It still amazes me how competitive it is to get into Nursing school. On a good note UT is building a new nursin school in Pearland. I'm not sure when it will be open.

Best of luck!

What is the HESI if you all don't mind me asking. I keep seeing that but my advisor didn't mention that test to me.

the HESI is a standardized entrance exam. Cy Fair requires you take the Reading Comprehension and Math parts of it. They calculate the Reading Comp part into your ranking and on the math, you just have to score a 70 percent in order to be able to apply. It is easy, basic math, and the reading comprehension is not too difficult, either. I think I got a 85 on the math part and a 96 on the reading comp. Other schools require you take more sections, like the Anatomy & Physiology parts as well. Good luck.

No wonder I don't know anything about it because I am not required to take it since I have a bachelors already and went to school in another state. Thanks for clarifying that though because I was lost for a second.

No, you will need it if you are applying to nursing school regardless if you have a bachelor's degree or are from out of state. I know all the nursing schools in this area require ALL applicants to take the HESI. It is geared towards people going into the nursing profession. What college is your advisor at? If it is North Harris or any North Harris Community college program, you will have to take the HESI. They offer it during the application period. Good luck. I just got into Cy Fair and will be starting in January.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....thanks! Really weird that my nursing couselor didn't mention that I would be having to take that b/c I went back there yesterday (after I saw this thread) and she stated that it wasn't required of me. I know if I go back today she's going to be looking at me crazy but I will ask one more time just to be sure.

I got this off of the North Harris website. Note: Look at Number 4. The test they are talking about is the HESI. I am not sure what advisor you are talking to, and where, but I just wanted to make sure that you are given the correct information so you don't loose out on submitting an application because you are short in something. Hope this information helps.

Admission Criteria - Basic Track

In addition to the admission requirements of the district, the following are requirements for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing program. The applicant must:

  1. Submit passing THEA exam scores in reading, writing and math or complete NHMCCD Student Success Initiative (SSI) requirements. To determine your SSI status, see a college adviser.
  2. Complete the following courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher: BIOL 2401, ENGL 1301, and PSYC 2301. (BIOL 2401 is required to meet the admission criteria, however, the highest grade in BIOL 2401 or 2402 will be used for calculation of GPA).
Note: Biology courses submitted for program credit must be completed no more than five (5) years prior to application to the nursing program. Each biology course may be repeated for a grade change (including a "W" or "I") only one (1) time during the same five (5) year period.
  3. Obtain a grade of a C or higher in all courses required in the associate degree nursing (ADN) plan. GPA in all courses in the ADN degree plan must be 2.5 or greater at time of application.
  4. Complete a standardized nursing pre-entrance test and meet the minimum score requirement. The cost of this test is the responsibility of the applicant. All applicants must take the nursing pre-entrance test. The entrance test may only be taken one (1) time each admission period.

  5. Submit official transcripts from colleges attended other than NHMCCD.

  6. Submit a completed application packet to the preferred college's nursing program. Application deadlines are posted on the college's websites. Separate applications to the college nursing programs are only required if the deadline submission dates differ.

  7. Final acceptance into the program is contingent upon a completed Hepatitis B immunization series and a satisfactory background check (as required by hospitals), which will be completed by an approved agency at the student's expense.

Thanks so much! Is there a book of some sort to study for this. I remember reading this in my book but I am still not understanding why my couselor didn't point that out to me again after asking her again yesterday.

When I looked for books, I really didn't have any luck. I found out that Cy-Fair had a study guide in their library that they had put together. You cannot check it out, but you can make copies of it. It is about 90 pages long and is in a binder. Just ask the librarian, and they keep it behind the counter. Like I said-it is not allowed to leave the library, but you can make copies of it.

Specializes in LTACH, LTC, SKILLED, REHAB.

There is a HESI study guide in each of the Libraries on campus- and they will check them out to you for 2 hours...enough time to make quick copies of the math and reading sections!!! Good Luck!!!

New Grad LVN from Montgomery...let me know if I can HELP~~~
