MSN admission for those who graduated with a BSN from UTA
Hi, Can someone please guide me how to apply for the MSN (Online FNP) program at UTA for someone with a BSN from the same institution. Do we still have to go through all the admission steps or are they some minimal steps because you already graduated from UTA and they have your grades/transcripts etc. The website doesn't have a lot of info and I don't find the advisors very responsive. If someone in a similar situation has been through this I would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thanks

UTA FNP September 2015 start.
Do all the classes have to be taken in a particular order or is there a sequence that has to be following. Also can you point me to where I can find a sample schedule in the MSN program. I did my BSN for UTA and they post the schedule for the online classes on the main program page but not quite so for the MSN. Thanks

UTA FNP September 2015 start.
Is the UTA FNP Program flexible as in you can go at your own pace and choose 1 class at a time or is it very structured and rigid. Is there an option to take a break for ex one summer and continue later ?

UT Arlington MSN (Online)
Also is the MSN program at UTA flexible like the RN-BSN program. As in can you start at anytime and take a break in between classes if needed ?

UT Arlington MSN (Online)
Did you have to go through the whole admissions process for your Masters ? or since you did your BSN from the same University was there an alternative entry route ?

Questions on FNP Program
I completed my RN-BSN from UT Arlington in Spring 2015. I am now planning to start my Masters but had a few questions. 1) Can you take 1 class at a time in the program ? If you take 1 class at a time how long will it take you to complete. 2) Looks like some online FNP programs expect you to stop working during your preceptorship (I think UTMB's website has that). Does UTA's program have this requirement ? 3) For those of you who did your BSN from UTA do we have to apply from scratch again ? Thanks

UTHealth FNP Spring 2016/UTMB Fall 2016
I was just looking into MSN programs and it seems like UT Health does not have a Spring MSN program. Only summer and Fall starts.

rosamma1, You said you were on H4. Has your husband filed I 485 yet ? are you elig for EAD card ? I am guessing not. You basically have 2 options at this time a) Apply for an H1C visa. However to do this you have to be employed at one of 14 hospitals in the US. Here is some more information below. THE ABC'S OF IMMIGRATION - H-1 C VISAS FOR REGISTERED NURSES b) Keep on studying. Apply for an MSN program especially as a Nurse Practitioner or an APN (Advanced Practice Nurse). Nurse Practitioners and APN's are eligible for H1B visa. Best of luck.

Aquarius 85, Since Sweden is a part of the EU you are lucky that you can study and work anywhere in the EU. In your situation I would try and see if you can get admission into other English speaking EU countries like the UK, Ireland etc. If that doesnt work for a good cheap Nursing education try India or the Philipines. Unless you have some other Immigration avenues that may possibly open up (Marriage to a US citizen or Green Card holder, family based immigration) I would not spend 120k US $ getting a ADN in the US. I got my ADN for less than 10k from a community college.

Questions about a career as a School Nurse
I wanted to know if anyone had any information on a career as a school Nurse and can share things like a) The salary (I know its going to be lower than in a clinical setting but how much lower ?). I am a relative new RN with around 8 months experience in a hospital setting. b) Do you follow the normal school schedule (8-5 M-F 9 months of the year) ? c) Are you eligible for all the Teacher benefits provided by the state like Pension, Retirement Plan, Health Insurance etc. d) Any special training required. Like additional certification, exams etc. e) Are these jobs very difficult to get f) Can you be a school nurse and work PRN in a hospital setting in the summer etc. g) If anyone has details about how to get a school nurse job for any of the North Houston area school districts ( Spring, Klein, Tomball, Cy Fair, Conroe, Humble etc) please let me know

Lot of Universities will also offer Graduate Assistanships to MSN students. As an F1 student you may be able to work on Campus as a Teaching/ Research/Lab assistant. Depends on the state and Univ you may even qualify for instate tuition or a tuition waiver. I am not sure of the extent of your financial needs but H1 or direct sponsorship is not an option at this time.

While on OPT you will get an EAD card. As long as you get a job you should be able to work on your EAD card. However as the previous poster said you can not get an H1B visa as an RN and even though RN's are exempt from labor cert you can only apply in the Empl Based 3rd preference category which is currently retrogressed and even Unavailable. Your best bet is to finish your 1 yr OPT and after that apply for admission to an RN -BSN or RN - MSN program. If you complete an MSN and work as a Nurse Practitioner or Administrator etc you are elig for H1's. ... And you never know the laws may change in your favor. You may be able to continue working outside while studying using CPT - Co curricular Practical training.
