Duke Spring 2016 ABSN

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi all!

I'm applying to Duke for the Spring 2016 ABSN cohort as well as other universities. I have done a lot of research on Duke and acceptance, but I was wondering if I could ask an opinion of any of the current Duke ABSN students or Duke alumni.

My question is, I know that letters of recommendation are weighted heavily, but how much extra weight does it hold if I have a letter of recommendation from a Duke faculty member? I'd rather not disclose who exactly, but it's a faculty member of Duke's school of medicine. Obviously, it won't hurt to have this letter, but I was wondering if Duke will see this as just another good letter of rec, or if they will see this as more since it's from "one of their own"?

Thanks for any feedback, it is all appreciated! :)

I just found out I got in! good luck to everyone on the waiting list!

Another waitlister here. Hope some of us get some good news in the next few months!

Wow, congratulations jeb5668, what a great feeling that must be! I am anxious to hear if/when my fellow wait-listers are notified of any openings.

In the past, they usually notify the people on the wait list 1-2 weeks after the people who are accepted choose to accept or decline the decision.

Correct me if I am wrong, but for the Fall 2015 cohort, the notices were sent out on March 6, April 10, April 27, 2015, first, second, and third rounds of admits, respectively.

Sounds about right to me. There were a lot of people pulled from the list in the fall and that can't always be expected so they may be only letting a few in for the spring. It may operate under a little different schedule for Spring!

Hi all,

I'm been lurking for some time...but my first post is a good one: I was accepted! :)

We have until August 8th to accept and officially secure our place so presumably sometime soon after that they'll have an idea how the cohort is shaping up. I'll be crossing my fingers for everyone!

Also, I RSVP'd for the Friday Duke Days if anybody wants to meet up before/after. I am coming from San Francisco and know NOTHING about the Raleigh/Durham area.

Respectfully,

Sarah

@mizsard23 I am also coming from out of town (NYC!) and will be a total newbie to the area. I'm planning to attend the Friday Duke Days as well if you would like to meet up! Congratulations to the others who were accepted and best of luck to the wait listers!

Best,

Alix

I got accepted last time but I withdrew it due to family reasons. I applied this time and got accepted again. I really want to go to Duke days but I will be out of country at that time. Wish good luck to everyone.

Hi, everyone!

I have also been lurking for a bit. I was accepted and plan to attend the Friday Duke Days. :) Luckily, I live in NC so I won't be coming from very far. To those of you on the wait list, hang in there. I have my fingers crossed for y'all!

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! I'm excited to meet everyone.

Warm wishes,

Lucky#Four

I am from Los Angeles, and am totally new to the area. I really want to attend Duke Days, but unfortunately I will also be out of the country. Are you planning on emailing Nora that you are unable to attend @tinadonnie? Congrats again to everyone!

Hi jeb5668,

I am living 20 minutes away from Duke. Nora called me this morning and I told her I can't make it at that time. She said that is fine and she will circulate the videos to those accepted later.
