Hi all!
I'm applying to Duke for the Spring 2016 ABSN cohort as well as other universities. I have done a lot of research on Duke and acceptance, but I was wondering if I could ask an opinion of any of the current Duke ABSN students or Duke alumni.
My question is, I know that letters of recommendation are weighted heavily, but how much extra weight does it hold if I have a letter of recommendation from a Duke faculty member? I'd rather not disclose who exactly, but it's a faculty member of Duke's school of medicine. Obviously, it won't hurt to have this letter, but I was wondering if Duke will see this as just another good letter of rec, or if they will see this as more since it's from "one of their own"?
Thanks for any feedback, it is all appreciated! :)
CNAtoNursie I am nervous too! Hoping these weeks will go by quickly. I will apply to other programs closer to home if I am not accepted for the January program since those applications aren't due until November. I'm lucky to have a little wiggle room between due dates but it's scary just applying to one place for now! What about you?
I'm from CT. I was on the waitlist for the fall semester and they offer to roll over your application to the next semester if you're on the waitlist, so that's where I'm at now. I'm grateful that they tell us on the earlier side-- I'm out of the country for 10 days starting the 17th tho, so I'm really hoping to hear before then! Is Duke your #1 choice?
I haven't seen anything about the webinar yet. Maybe they're assuming that they will cover everything in the Duke days this year? Did you get Nora's email this afternoon? I guess that means decisions will be coming soon! I have family in Chapel Hill and have always loved NC. I think they have a really structured program at a reputable hospital and I love how there are a lot of students around to learn from! Med school, PA, nursing, etc. What about you? Why Duke over unc (for now)?
I did get her email! I grew up a huge fan of UNC and wanted to go there for nursing school but with all the recent scandal concerning academics, it's just left a slight mark on how I view the school and its integrity. Don't get me wrong, I'm know they still have a top notch nursing program and attending that university would still be an honor , but in knowing myself and the things I value when receiving an education, I think Duke would be the ideal fit for me (if I can get in!). So, if you get in, do you think you'll try to live in Chapel Hill or closer in Durham?

Hi!
I'm new to allnurses but I wanted to comment on how nervous I am and how much I can't wait to find out if I was accepted or not (mid- July feels so far right now, ha) What about anyone else? Is anyone else applying to other programs besides Duke?
