Non Accredited (but approved) Nursing Schools

Does anyone have recommendations for good public or private schools for an associate of nursing in the southern Florida area?

Also has anyone had any experience with Southern Florida college of nursing school? This specific school has no wait list , however it is not accredited.

Also what are your thoughts on going to nursing schools that are not accredited, but approved? I already have a bachelors degree in teaching. I may want to go to grad school for nursing, but am fearful of credits not transferring if I graduate from a non-accredited school.

Any thoughts/insight are appreciated!

Thank you

  1. This is why it is available.
  2. If Florida had their population's  best interest in mind,  why are so many nursing schools unaccredited with poor pass rateshttps://floridasnursing.gov/forms/RN-pass-rate-4q-2020.pdf
  3. Make sure you ask for answers to  these 2 questions in writing: pass rate and graduation rate. and double check in the NCLEX site.
  4.  the Florida NCLEX site. You will be amazed how many of  the same programs call themselves excellent and then cannot pass a student. https://floridasnursing.gov/forms/RN-pass-rate-4q-2020.pdf
  5. Lots of learning on your own. Many students say they are a self learner but you do need some activity from a faculty member. Otherwise you could learn by mail/TV . A lot of students in these  online/ short clinical say they teach themselves and fail because if they knew how to learn the information, why would they go to school? Work hard NOW to choose a good program instead of digging your self out of a hole, with a lot of tuition to pay for.
  6. SCROLL down to see your program and that will answer the question why the program is not accredited.

Do not attend a non-accredited school. It will come back to bite you in the future.

How about ? They offer their prelicensure BSN program in FL. Fully accredited, non-profit, solid program.

I agree never ever attend a non-accredited school. You will regret it. I know a couple of nurses who did and can't go further in their education. It's crippling.

Not only will you not be able to transfer any credits, you probably won't be able to get a license to practice, either. These "schools" are a disgrace, and it's disgraceful that FL takes in the money fir them and allows them to keep on ripping off students.  Go to a real school, not an online/mail it in one. There are many, many fully accredited  ones with good or excellent NCLEX pass rates that would be interested in you. As an example, there are some that would take your current bachelors and give you a directly-entry-to-practice with a masters in nursing. You sound motivated and bright enough— look into those. Mass General Institute of Health Professions is one. They might cost more, but you won't find yourself five years out with a huge loan and no work, either.

Thanks for your insight and recommendation! I will definitely look at the school you linked.

Southern Florida college of nursing schoo

I really couldn't find the exact school because "South" is in a lot of school names. I am not being mean but there are so many Florida nursing schools whose students are not able to pass NCLEX and work. IN addition Florida has schools that import students from California for a few days of clinical (many of the LPN's will do fine but not all). Florida cannot say "no" to the underperforming schools. Their new stance is the schools must become accredited in a couple of years. And before then? Florida will have a lot of crappy schools trying to make the most of the 5 years.

Florida doesn't really care about educating it's students.  Many, many charter and private schools here with no oversight, no minimum requirements, no state or federal testing.  And of course the legislature allotted more money to these kinds of "schools" this year.  It's a disgrace.

@Hannahbanana

Thank you for your insight! I did not realize I would be eligible for a masters in nursing without a nursing degree.

Well, you'll have earned one, granted on the way to the MN. Good luck!

Look for MEPN programs. This is a masters in nursing as an entry level.
