The facility I work at does not pay shift differential, weekend differential, or holiday pay. Is this common? I work in the rehab section of a long term care facility. The moral is pretty low, they dont work with the staff if they need a day off for lets say...a doctors appointment. Call offs and turn over is outrageous. They also do not provide raises. I did not feel I had much choice as I was a new grad. However, many of my classmates I went to school with are now making much more then I do with raises, shift diff, and weekend differential. I also work the 3-11 shift and feel we get so much thrown on us. On top of doing our actual job we are answering and transferring calls(because we do not have a secretary) dealing with family members, having to pretty much deal with the situations the social workers, DON, and administrator would deal with during the day. Im just beginning to feel unappreciated for the work I do.

Virtually all of the LTC facilities in the large city where I live do not pay shift differentials, weekend differentials or holiday pay. I worked at one place that required employees to dip into their PTO hours if they wished to be paid for a holiday.
If you want shift differentials and holiday pay, perhaps you should consider seeking employment at a hospital.

Yes, shift and weekend differential pay is more of a hospital thing. I do private duty 12 hr noc shifts, with no differential, no nuthin'. But I have ONE adorable little boy for a patient and here I am posting on the forum while I watch his monitors.
To me, it's worth the pay cut and lack of bennies to ENJOY MY JOB (ahem). I did my time in the hospital, I know I can do it successfully. I made money hand over fist. I just don't really need to right now anyway.
If you DO need to make a good living with those benefits, definitely apply to a hospital. They sort of have to maintain a certain competitiveness with their pay scales, and the bennies are worth it when you have a family to help support.

My 1st job was in a horrible SNF/LTC and no differentials or raises, but they hired new grads.
If you are wanting/needing more money, get your experience and get thee to a hospital position, where there is shift, weekend differentials, holiday pay and shift incentives for picking up shifts.

We still have shift diffs, holiday pay and get raises. It all depends on your facility and the competition for staff. We start new grads out with a higher salary than either of the local hospitals which,by the way, haven't hired new grads in years and are laying off nurses right and left.

In the area I work, the LTC I worked for had differentials, double time for holidays.
I never heard of any facility at least having differential...

Even in my area, I had differential for working in PDN, even holiday pay...
It depends on the company.

I get a shift differential for 2nd shift, enough to where there's no way I'd ever move to days. Mine is actually more than the shift differential for nights because it's much more difficult to fill vacant positions on my shift according to HR. That being said, we only get 2 paid holidays/yr. On the other holidays we have the option to take 8 hrs of PTO, essentially getting double-time although it comes from our own pocket, so to speak.

I never worked for any LTC facility that offered differentials.

I worked in a SNF/LTC for 2 years as an LPN before I got my RN. They paid shift differential for nights, and we got holiday pay. They did not have a shift dif for weekends however. Most LTC places in the area I worked in also paid shift dif for nights and holidays. Or so my friends said that worked there. Now I work as a pediatric home health private duty RN, and we get paid $5 shift dif for nights, but no weekends. We also get holiday pay, but we aren't required to work any holidays, and it depends on if the family wants you in the home on the holiday, as to whether you'll be able to work at all on a holiday, even if you want to.
I work as a PDN on nights - I get shift dif and holiday pay. I think it depends on the company.

When I worked in LTC, I got shift differential, double pay in holidays, weekend differential. I believe in my area all facilities offer those benefits.
