No Longer a Fan

I found myself so fond of Katie Duke in her NYER days. But her shameless self promotion to win Dr. Oz's nurse contest has really just turned me off. She and Kati Kleber have suddenly become the face of nursing, and yet, I feel a disconnect, as if they don't truly represent what nursing is like at all.

In light of The View controversy, I just wish nursing DID have an honest, accurate face.

Just my two cents!

Like I said, I think the letdown comes from the disappointment in seeing that rather than using her pseudofame to talk about nurse to patient ratios, nurse violence (both patient mediated and nurse to nurse mediated), the silliness of HCAPS, or any other number of issues, she chose to use it to gain popularity in a "vote for me" nursing contest.

They need like... Ruby Vee to be on the show or something.

Yeah, I agree.

When I finished reading your original post, I went straight back to the Valley-Girl 1980's days, because I said out loud, "Oh, gag me with a spoon!"

I can't give you a link that tells the whole story, but Google both names. You'll get a good picture.

I'm not sure who you're talking about, and if you cannot explain it without me taking the time to google the names, then why did you bother starting a thread?

I think in my following posts I did an adequate job of explaining who they are.

Edit: And not to mention, it never occurred to me that anyone would be that in the dark. I made the assumption (erroneously so) that they were common internet names.

Katie Duke posted a very articulate answer to the whole stethoscope thing last week on youtube.

I listened to several videos and had to shut it off when she told a story about a bad shift, going out with her coworker for a long island ice tea and going back to the ICU, drunk, to restock the code cart.

I want to like her, but I can't stand the" Nurse

Jackie" attitude and flaunt the rules behavior.

I didn't know anything about these people either, but she gave a good explainer. It's a short thread and worth the read. And the thread wasn't just about the people we didn't know.

Sorry, some of us are that 'in the dark'. I don't watch much tv, least of all Dr Oz....and I don't do Internet gossipy stuff. I know others on here just like me, and I'm sure we'll all remain in the dark. But these gals sound like whack jobs for sure

I enjoyed her response. But what she did beyond her taped response just isn't sitting well with me.

She's proved she feels she's far beyond rules. Fired for violating her employer's social media policy, but got hired by the same hospital system in a different location.

The "in the dark comment" wasn't meant to be insulting, but I can see how it came across that way. My apologies.

Not everyone lives and dies by what goes on in social media. I knew who they both were: Katie from the TV show, and the "nurse eyeroll" chick from seeing her site once. But I agree that if you're going to start a discussion about something/someone, you should provide your readers with more background information than "just Google it."

And not for nothing, but this looks to me like a thread whose purpose is to badmouth another nurse. Isn't that what those talking heads at "The View" did, which got so many nurses here all het up ?

(Waiting to be accused of NETY in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...)

She apologized. I don't think she's going to accuse anyone of NETY, nynursey is experienced and knows how the boards work, she just brain farted a bit.
