no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.
i'll keep you posted:: i hope others will share with me too:bowingpur:bow:
We're actually getting a treadmill for ourselves as a gift this year. :) I'm interested in running, but our streets are incredibly hilly and not a great place for a new runner to get started! I'm planning on doing this:

Now, I'm not a couch potato by any means -- I usually work out at least 3 to 4 times a week, lately with kettlebells, sometimes cardio/kickboxing, sometimes bellydance. But I really want to start running, so I'm excited about this!
Thanks for the warm welcome! I just started Saturday at the gym...I'm working on my core and of course cardio. I did 20 min. medium intensity cardio followed by 30 min 'fat burning' treadmill. I've had a spotty history at the gym since the summer, so its not like I'm starting off cold. I used to be really good about getting my routine at the gym. But I would use up a couple of hours there between resistance training and cardio. I got burn out mostly because I could never get below about 155lbs (the infamous plateau), and it just took up so much of my day!! So this time I'm going to do weekly weigh-ins (I'm starting at 170lbs) and just focus on doing at least the 30min cardio as many days of the week as I can. Its hard to let go of the daily strength training, because its important to me to have a strong core...*sigh. I know I could alternate, but then I wouldn't get my daily cardio, and that's just as important to me for the weight loss.
This dilemma is I think why I failed and dropped the ball and regained the weight and muscle tone I'd gained last time. Burn out due to unrealistic goals. I guess I'll make cardio my priority since it obviously worked so well for you guys, and continue to watch what I eat. The core strength training I'll do 2-3 days a week, and cardio 4-5 days a week ( I just decided). I think I'm going to need a sticker system for this...
Thank you wintergurl for your suggestions to do abbduction/adduction to help with the stress incontinence. I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE to jog, but after giving birth 5 times, well...
Thank you also blindsided and k.morris for keeping us all motivated and going...and inspired!
Hey everyone,
It is so nice to see many people active in their lives and on this thread, it is really motivating to see. And everyone seems to have different but amazing plans for how to lose weight and become more healthy. I did the abduction and adduction machine yesterday, I love them too!
So far my marathon training is going well, I still have 9 months to train, but I will be doing a lot of races and training in between to keep it exciting. I am doing a 3 mile race Sunday and sometimes after that will probably do a 5, 10 and 13 (half marathon) race, and a few 20 mile runs (I am not looking forward to that, but hopefully I will be by the time it comes) before my actual big 26.2 miles haha.
Today I ran 51 minutes and Sunday I ran 70 mins!!!...It feels so great and my grandpop is so excitied that he is training me that he can not even sleep some nights, and I definitely don't want to dissapoint him or myself so on with this training I will go. I only run every other day, and do weight stuff, abdominals, or rest on the in between days. but enough marathon talk, that is still 9 months away...
LunahRN- I still think belly dancing sounds so fun and like such an amazing workout. I really want to work on my belly. And the treadmill gift sounds awesome, if I had one in my house I would probably use it all the time, but not sure I would ever feel like running outside either haha...When you feel comfortable venturing onto the hills make sure you do run outside some days its so nice and different and a good change up, but winter is just about here and I am jealous of your treadmill haha...Keep up the good work you seem to active and so ready to lose this weight and get healthier!!! Go go girl!
Treelover- You inspire me as well, I can feel how bad you want this and how hard you are willing to work towards it. Your plan seems perfect for you right now and the sticker system is an awesome idea I always have lover and I know blindsided has seen real success with it. Don't worry about whatever weight you may have picked up recently right now you are moving towards the right direction of healthier and in the end it won't matter where you started just where you are!...Remember it is a journey and you have to enjoy the journey along the way!...not just the start and finish! You have the right attitude and plan to really do this, KEEP IT UP and keep us updated I can't wait to hear about your success.
Blindsided- As always I love your enthusiasm and dedication, I really want to be like you! I want to be able to be as motivated as you are for as long as you have been. Thank you for always being here for me even though sometimes I am Missing, it means a lot to me, you are awesome! You keep riding the bike strong and I am so proud of you and you are completely right with the moderation, no way can we deprive ourselves every second of this journey, we need that cookie or chip once in a while, but just in moderation and once in a while. Keep it up!!!! You must have killer legs from all that biking!!!!
It is true we all have different goals, and our at different part of our journeys but we are all on the same journey of finding a more healthy version of ourselves and I know we can support eachother along the way no problem.
Let's keep eachother posted when we have time!!!!
GOODLUCK ALL, CANT WAIT TO HEAR ABOUT ALL OF YOUR SUCCESSES!!!!

I don't have much to lose -- 5 lbs, maybe 7? But being more toned -- yes, that! I get bored doing the same types of exercises over and over, so I'm constantly trying new/different workouts. My body seems to respond well to that, as does my brain. :)
Hello again. I don't have much time to post, but I receive health news updates from CNN and I thought this article was inspiring. This mom started at over 300lbs and is now a body builder. I thought it was interesting that she says her weight now averages about 150, and her weight for a show is 139. I think that when you see her picture its clear that muscle weighs a lot because she looks far thinner than 139. Perhaps she's tall...

I didn't go to the gym yesterday. I spent the day applying for forbearance for all my student loans! Today I found out that if the unit manager at a hospital I applied to likes my resume I'll be scheduled for an interview hopefully by the end of this week. Meanwhile my lovely daughter made snickerdoodle cookies last night...I think I had maybe 5 cookies. *sigh. Otherwise I've been eating healthy, though I'm definitely hitting the gym tonight!
Take care, all!:redbeathe
Hey, you guys are the bomb, that's all there is to it! Everybody doing their thing, but with the same basic goal. I did get my hour walk in today, ahead of the winter storm. 3/3 this week so far, then ran to the store like everybody else :) I'm getting my orthotics this week, and what I call my "Jimmy Shoes," for anybody who remembers the Seinfeld episode involving Jimmy. Hope they will make my arthritis in my feet more tolerable when I walk. When you get my age you'll understand, ha-ha. You know, the water drinking has helped me to eat a little less, even though I can only drink two 20oz bottles (gag) per day, better than I was doing. I also have skim milk and o.j. daily, but even then, I find it hard to get all the fluids I need. It's my personal little struggle I cannot even imagine running, much less training for a marathon! Good thing there's always good old walking, and my little bike routine. Maybe I'll get my eliptical some day. Anyhow, everybody keep keeping on, that's the main thing!!!
OK, I am reporting in for this week. Again I am 7/7 for my exercise. I officially finished my Christmas shopping today, and made it home in time to walk before it got dark. Then I spent the eve wrapping gifts. Hope everybody had a good, productive week with your various workouts. I was 128.8 today, below my 130 cutoff, so happy with that! Good luck everyone for this coming week :)

Wow! Hello, and welcome all newcomers! You guys can get the jump on all those folks that are waiting until their New Year resolutions. I use to be one of those can't start until a Monday, or the 1st of the month, year, etc. doesn't matter when you start...just start! Don't fear failing, just take one day at a time, one bad habit at a time. Don't deprive yourself completely, but cut portions. Also learn to substitute. For instance, I still like to have a cookie or two, so I'll have some skim milk and a couple cinnamon grahams. Way less fat then some cookies, still sweet too. There are lots of ways you can still have your sweet and eat it too. Treelover, a special note to you. Congratulations on leaving the abusive marriage, and getting through school. I hope you and the kids thrive, and that you find a job very soon. Exercise and weight loss will just make you feel better about yourself of course. Add that to all that you've already accomplished, and that'll be huge! You don't have to train for the marathon (I'm picturing you already k.morris :)), just slow and steady will get you there. We can all have somewhat different fitness goals, and still be a support to each other. Last week I got in 7/7 days, and noticed my jeans fitting a little better since I have increased my walking time to 1 hr. When I exercise in the house, I do the bike for 30 min., so I'm getting in 30 min to 1 hr as many days as possible per week. Sometimes life just gets in the way, that's for sure. Keep at it everyone!!!
