  1. I would have to agree 100%. Working in PD and home hemo is very gratifying to me personally. Empowering the ESRD population with the tools to best take care of their new extended life is what I enjoy the best, not to mention these patients are very grateful for all the support of the inter disciplinary team. From the moment they walk in to our clinic after having been diagnosed with ESRD, to handing them their "certificate of home dialysis completion", and offering them support every step of the way is very rewarding. I also invite you to look into home therapies. My unit is also finding it difficult to staff our clinic. We are in the beautiful Bay Area in CA. So check out the home modalities if you are interested in a rewarding niche of nursing!
  2. I have 3 possible job offers and I am having difficulty choosing between them. 1. Telemetry position in a hospital. Night shift. (I'm not really a night person) ...but then I could get my 1 year acute care year checked off !! opening the door to travel nursing !!! 2. Peritoneal dialysis in a Dialysis Clinic. M-F 9am to 5p. My would be preceptor seems to be great ! (30 years experienced) Awesome staff...If I take this position, will it "lock" me in the dialysis area? can I use this experience to later work for an agency and do acute care floor nursing? 3. GI Endoscopy position. M-F 8-5 I want to work in outpatient surgery clinic !! This is my top choice, If position offered to me !:loveya: question is. as a New Grad ...which one of these positions opens up more doors for me ? I eventually would like to get into the "OR", PACU, or travel nursing..... can someone please offer some needed advice ?? thank you !!!
  3. I have been offered a position in Telemetry. my question is about the 3 on /4 off schedule. Are the 3 days consecutive days ? or do they jump around? I did not ask this in the interview..... thanks !
  4. I'm so glad I found this old post....just what I was wondering about the different tasks pertaining to the shifts !! I love this website !!
  5. I was inspired to shed the 20 lbs I gained during nursing school by reading this thread.....I joined weight watchers and have lost 5 lbs so far !! I also go to the gym to stay active and then return home to continue my job search.....thanks for the inspiration to all !!
  6. I've had interviews in Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego....and my interviewers actually like the fact that I'm a little older and that I have some work experience under my belt. It has not been a problem so far.... All of them offered me the positions, but I decided to turn them down for other reasons......low pay ( $17.00 at a med spa) ..and part-time..( I need FT)......
  7. IHS.gov is also hiring !
  8. Whatever you do....don't give up !! I recommend you review the Random Fact Throwing.on this site....it has tons of information that is a must to review. Dedicate time to your study time and pretend it is your job !! For myself, yes ...doing questions over and over helped. Also, review the many threads on here regarding study tips...that is what I did and it helped !! Believe in your self and dedicate your study time. Determine your study style... quiet at the library? I also took my own notes....it was a lot of work....but looking back....I would do it all over again....Good Luck...I know you can do it !!!
  9. There are tons online....I googled " RN resume". There are different formats as well. I would also ask the career office in your school. Usually they have a couple samples for you to get ideas. Also make sure you have a couple of people proof-read ! As I am working on mine, I always seem to find a new thing to fix or add. and I always think to myself: "How could I have missed that earlier??" So.... so make sure you review and then ask a couple of other classmates to review it. (or an Instructor). The only thing is that when I ask people to review mine, some say it looks too plain....others say to add stuff to it.....so I am just going for balance....not too much...not too plain....Good Luck !!!
  10. Congrats !! I would kill to have an offer right about now. ! I am happy for you. You will gain some experience, that's for sure !
  11. hi. i hope the best for u ! there are other threds of people that went through the same experience as you....running out of time....and they passed !!! so keep up the faith....and try to pearson vue trick ! don't give up !!:)
  12. did u do all the kaplan Qbank questions and all the Qtrainers? did u do the online course ? or just a kaplan review book and on your own? just wondering because a lot of people think Kaplan was a big help. Don't give up though....we are almost there !! So many students would kill to be were we are....so it is just a matter of finding out what works and what doesn't.....we can do it!!
  13. the first time i took the class was a Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur.....a litttle too fast for me. I couln"t keep up with the readings and looking at the material in the course book....the second time i went to a Sat-Sun for like a month and i loved it!! i had time to read , do all the questions and the pace was muuuch better. Let's just pray that it helps !! We can do it !!
  14. i decided to take the class twice to keep me in study mode...with 2 different instructors....same questions though....but it might help to get the strategy down !! it cannot hurt...that's for sure....you might try a couple of classes...to see if you get anything else out of it...
  15. I inquired with the staff at Kaplan, and they said that it would be the exact same questions if you would do it all over again. He did say they would undo your answers and test, and you start from scratch, but the SAME questions... I guess if you fail - but didn't do ALL the questions it would be worth your while to take again. Otherwise, I guess just get your money back. ? and try another other boooks. He also said that if you want they even give you a new RN Couse Book....(u turn in your old one)..... Good Luck !:)
