no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.
i'll keep you posted:: i hope others will share with me too:bowingpur:bow:
How is everyone doing other than being crazy busy with Christmes? I got in 7/7 last week and 2/2 so far this week. My walk today only lasted 35 minutes because I had to wear boots, and they make my feet MISERABLE! Well, as you know, I don't count my exercise unless it's 30 minutes or more, so at least I made that, but I won't walk in those damn things again! Hope you are all able to keep with your goals during this time, but if not, just get back on when you can. P.S. I just saw a previous patient who lost over 100 pounds since I've seen her...so there ya go!
Yeah busy with Christmas is right! I have had my christmas shopping done for a while now but for some reason I have been feeling really stressed maybe its just that season and my body thinks I should be haha I don't know.
Today I burned 1019 calories!! I didn't mean to at all but I went for a 60 minute run and then did a interval class and it sorta just happened, but I know I can't do that everyday, but I have been in a slump recently with the 24 inches of snow we got on Friday. I have not been able to run since Thursday and I feel so gross because of it so I fell into eating some chips and cookies haha,....but I am back on track now and will be writting more after the new year.
There is one more stretch until the holiday season is over and then I feel it will be easier for all of us to reach our goals without delays. I am so happy to hear you are still enjoying your bike and pushing the intensity, goodjob!!! You are a exercise machine!!! I am very proud of you and look up to you a lot keep up th good work!
I know, the snow has limited me too for my walking. My husband goes with me fairly often, but he only wants to do my "old walk" which is just over 30 minutes. Then lately I've continued on myself for the full hour, but it is so slick out that I'm afraid to walk without him. He's very surefooted and I am SO NOT! Well, 30 is better than nothing, and I get my sticker ha-ha. Don't worry about your little fall off the wagon, because you've been doing so great! Let's just report in after the holidays, and make an honest assessment where we are at that time, and go from there. Everybody have a great holiday season, and remember...everything in moderation, but ENJOY :)
Hey everybody! I wanted to post something now to let you know where I am, and where I'm going to be. My husband is going to set me up with a different and much better computer, so I will be gone for a bit from the site. Not sure how long this will take to get set up with all of the files and stuff, could take some time. So, here is where I stand with my goals since Christmas. I wanted to see if I could exercise everyday this December, and I have met that goal, even Christmas! So two days to go yet, but I plan to make it. Also, I am still under the 130 pound mark, even with all the goodies/snacks I've been exposed to. I know the exercise has helped to balance all of this. K. Morris, you helped me because when you inspired me to get some things done early, rather than running around frantic at the last minute, and that so helped reduce some stress. Thank you! I also applied that to getting the trees up, and getting the extra bedrooms ready, etc. I so plan to try it again next year, because it's SO MUCH BETTER! Less stress=less stress eating. I am having more company over New Years, and we are going to go hear my son and his band play New Years Eve...can you say PARTY? I want to wish everyone a very happy, safe and healthy 2010. I am looking forward to the same, and hope to maintain my weight and exercise goals. Oh, one more thing. I am now starting to do my crunches without putting my feet under the couch. This has been a bit of a struggle, but going to keep getting better. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE, and hope to be back on the site soon :)
Hey everyone!
I've been seeing this thread for a while but I never knew what it was about and never checked it out. But for some reason something told me to click on it today and Im glad I did. I really need a weight loss support system. I have two kids and am unable to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. My son was born 2/1/06 and before I got pregnant with him I weighed 120 but by the end of my pregnancy I weighed 185, yes i put on 65 lbs. By the time he was a year and a half I got down to 130 which I wasnt happy with but I got comfortable with. Then last year I got pregnant with my daughter and had her on 1/23/09. I got up to 175 with her I believe and now almost a year later im weighing 152 lbs, so basically I weigh 22 lbs more than what I did after my son and 32 lbs more than I did before I had my first born. Im only 4'11" so this extra weight is not good for me at all. I ultimately want to get back down to 120 or atleast 125 but when I dont have support I tend to lack motivation. So Im hoping that this group will give me the extra push to get me where I need to be.
Does anyone have any exercise tips for me? Im a single mother and cant afford to get a gym membership right now...are there any good exercise dvd's or anything out right now that anyone suggests for me or any tips on exercises to do in my home that will help me get the results I need?
I've decided to count calories; I did that a couple years ago and it really worked out for me. My mom wanted me to do weight watchers with her but I tried it for a little while and just feel that counting calories works better for me. Im going to find one of those weight loss calculators right now and see how many calories I should intake daily to start weight loss along w/my 30 minute workouts...
Sorry for the long post, Im just excited to have found a group that seems to be working out for everyone...
And CONGRATS K.MORRIS, youre weight is exactly where I want and need to be right now:yeah:
I like exercise DVDs by The Firm -- they're a really nice mix of cardio and weights. You can probably find them used for very little on sites like half.com or Amazon. I'm also 4'11" -- it's tough because that weight has nowhere to go! My healthiest weight is right around 120 to 125 -- anything less and I don't look right!
I'm now on week 3, day 1 of the couch-to-5K plan -- I'm really liking it!! It's not been difficult to stick to at all.
Hi! I am so excited to be back online and onsite with a different computer. Can't believe hubby got it up and running in one day. We still have quite a few things to figure out yet, but we have all the basics already. Welcome starmickey. Don't know where you are and what your weather is, but walking is a great place to start. Do you have a time of day when someone is there to watch the kids so you could get out? Do you own any exercise equipment? Even if you have to stay in, do you have a set of stairs to walk up and down? Or, just start doing laps in your house. The main thing is to get going and start small, pick something you can and will do, don't have to go for broke. This along with your calorie counting should help you to see progress soon, but make sure you're getting enough calories to run after those little ones! Slow and steady is how I did it, and now I just need to maintain. The only indoor equipment I have is my exercise bike, so between that and walking, plus portion control is how I did it. Simple! Now I know how you younger folks like your DVDs, etc., so you'll probably get some other good suggestions. I dream about an eliptical, but for now I can't afford it. Lunah, I'm so glad you like your current plan, yea! I got my hour walk in today and my crunches, etc. I really love walking in the winter. Just one final day to exercise in December. If you're reading this, my computer is working!
Lunah- I went to walmart yesterday and ran across some of The Firm dvd's. I decided to go with the 500 calorie one since it had such good reviews (I researched it on amazon first). I havent actually done the workout yet but hopefully it will work out for me.
Blindsided- I dont have any stairs or exercise equipment in my apartment. I go to Michigan state so Im currently living in an on campus apartment and as you could imagine university apartments are not very large:cry:. But luckily Im on winter break right now so I can use the exercise equipment at my parents house while Im here until classes start back up on the 11th. Oh, and just like you I would absolutely LOVE to have an elliptical machine. Those are the BEST and they help you to burn so many calories in a short amount of time.
But since the holidays are over, I decided to make today my official start day of my healthier lifestyle and hopefully weight loss. Im going with your sticker idea Blindsided and I also decided to cut out all drinks except for water and one to three cups of fruit juice once per week (sometimes I just need to have grape juice!) Im also going to track my daily exercise, how many calories I burned (If Im using a machine and can read off the calories burned), what I ate and how many calories the meal was, and how many glasses of water I drink in a daily journal. This should help me, I did it about three years ago and it worked out for me very well but I lost my exercise buddy which resulted in my losing motivation. So since I started today my weigh ins will be every friday, I cant wait to see how I've done when I weigh in next friday:D
Ill be sure to come on every friday and let everyone know how I did. Oh, and I think Im going to start off at 1,200 calories a day, is this good enough or should I lower it to 1,000?
Hi guys! I was going to suggest that for the new year to keep the thread going and motivate each other, but also to appeal to those currently working and/or busy lifestyles, that we just post once a week. Fri would be fine with me, or we can pick another day? Starmickey, I think 1200 would be the minimum I would do. It will give you a little wiggle room, and you won't feel so deprived. I think that's important, but others may have more ideas. And make sure you plan your eating so you have fuel for your exercise. Once you see how your body responds, you can adjust accordingly. Hope you like your dvds. I just counted up my entire exercise days for 2009=303 days!! I am quite pleased with that :)
Hello everyone, I saw this thread last week and it motivated me... I hit the gym...so far I've lost 2lbs!!! :yeah:So just wanted to say thanks, I'm super excited, I'm going to keep at it!!! It also helps to relieve frustration (at not getting any call backs) and stress of not having a job. I feel so much better after I work out.
I'm doing well with my program ... today is Week 4, Day 2 of the couch-to-5K, and I've been doing some cardio on the days in between my running days, too. But I'm taking Mondays off completely -- those are my recovery days from everything, including my weekly three 12s in a row at the ER (Friday-Saturday-Sunday). :)
I now have a larger goal for doing this -- I'm going to join the Army Nurse Corps! Good thing I've started running, ha ha.

Hey all. I got my orthotics and walked in them for an hour today. I do think they will give more support and decrease my supination. Also, I have added two more cycles to my "standup bike routine." So I am sitting very little on it, mostly standing or leaning forward on the bars. Enjoy that new treadmill Lunah! Also welcome Anilu. Great going on that 5 pounds! I'm 3/3 so far this week. Easier to do when you're not working for sure. K. morris, hopt you and grandpa are having fun with that training too.
